Having trouble finding parts for my budget boost build, and i've noticed alot of people have custom manifolds and downpipes, i've seen the standard vtr manifold adapted before, anyone have any close up pictures of this?
I have a spare manifold and fancy having a play around with it to see what i can come up with.

Cheers :y:

Hard work if your not a keen welder/fabricator.

You can always buy the cituning mani and then get a custom downpipe made up for pennies tbh.

I suppose you could try and get the standard mani adapted by some one.

would ppl aggree finding a mani and downpipe cheap is what puts them off turboing a car? im tempted to knock some up for the budget builders :p

adapting the standard one is faily easy, i had 189bhp and no lag
i did have to have ferriday make up some 2mm spacers to fit between the head and manifold when i upgraded to T25 from a T2 as the actuator hit the block

i may have to get someone to make me a spacer for a bigger turbo going off how close my compressor housing is to the block :(

I've been trying to find a setup for ages, was going to buy the one with the k03 turbo, but someone beat me to it :( i've got a few years experience with fab work, never tried anything like this this before though, but i do have access to a workshop and any air tool, i've got a standard mani next to me atm, would it just be a case of cutting up the bottom and getting the flange welded at the right angle?

ask mike at ferriday
i sent him the exhaust mani gaskets and he made me 2 spacers

if its just for the exhaust i can get some made

yeah just for the exhaust :y: pm me some prices martin (8v & 16v), may buy a few, also how much for turbo flanges, may need some making up if you can get me some prices as ive got a few plans kicking about :D

islayer if youve got some experience then go for it :y:, long as you get the turbo the right angle and make sure your leaving yourself enough room to get everything in..youll be fine :)

i cut the bottom off a standard mani and turned it over then welded a T2 size flange on to it at an angle then filled the gaps with 3mm thick steel plate
that kept blowing gaskets between the adaptor and the standard mani (i think that was cos i was running more boost than the exhaust housing could take) so i welded the adaptor to the mani and its still going strong on an AX gti

i can get spacers or full on 10mm head flanges made, i can get either t2 or t3 flanges done aswell, if you sent me a gasket i can get any flange made up for other turbos

If you could make turbo manifolds and had the equipment to knock up cheap ones, you could make some money for sure.

Send out standard manifold to you, you weld/cut it up, send back job done.

hence the reason I'm learning to weld properly :y: awesome skill to have.

Doesn't stop at Saxos either really.

Took me ages tbh, if I had a tig welder at home I could do it much faster.
It's made from 316ss. I just used bends and cut them to make the desired shape

Bump, i need help sourcing parts :\ I need to make my custom downpipe, but I can only find the 5 bolt type flange on ebay, where as mines the 3 bolt type t28, Am I going to have to take the turbo to an engneering company and make up a flange?

Sophia_Bush

no yours is piss easy to sort out for the downpipe find a saab 9-3, 9-5 or 9000 rob the down pipe off that cut the 3 bolt flange off leaving a bit of pipe on and voila one flange then its a case of 3 90 degree mandrel bends about half metre? of straight pipe flange for exhaust and thats all yours parts sorted

i am in the process of making up 2 manifolds, both are from other 4 pot turbo cars and the exhaust ports are in the right places but the bolt holes dont line up, i have had 2 plates made up with the vts exhaust ports and mounting holes but the plate does not have a profile, so its just a rectangular plate, the idea is to mount the manifold and the plate together using the bolt holes of the manifold with a gasket between and then use the saxo stud holes to mount the manifold to the head, giving you more space to play with for a bigger turbo, im not 100% sure if i will need to move the bottom brace of the bay forward, but there is plenty of space ;D. i will only be using on of the manifolds, they are both tubular ones so one will be up for grabs ;D
