View Full Version : Conversion...Who fits them??

Eloise

I've got a 1.1 which i'm happy with and don't want to sell it and get a vtr/vts... although, i would like to have a conversion done. a friend of mine had his done for £600 parts and labour (VTR) and its ran superb for the past 8 months! nice bit of power when needed, and a strong engine!

On my Mk2 2001 1.1 Saxo which engine is easier to fit? the VTR or VTS?

is anyone selling one?

and does anyone fit them for a fair price?

:y:

Can you afford to insure the engine conversion first?

This is the first thing to look into. The you'll need to sort the brakes.

i've just checked my insurance, it'll take it up from 1,100 to just over 2,000 and something... which is fine by me paying on a monthly basis.

Direct line ;)

Wouldn't it just be easier to buy a vtr?

then you get a better base to start.

i done my own frm a furio to a vtr cos i blew the engine was cheaper to buy a new engine thn fix it or buy a new car....

most wiring harnesses are the same so its pretty much a straight swop if ya know what ya doing if your changing the box chances are yal need different drive shafts so keep the reg of the engine ya might be needing that later =)

I haven't had an engine conversion done by Mandyslover (Jason), but he has done a fair bit of work on my car and really does know his stuff. Can't recommend him enough!

posting your location would help.

If you are down south give Martin from Tweeqd a PM. Hes been resurrecting my track toy from the dead.

yep, we take on conversions, can supply engines as well. theres quite a few on here we've done

Eloise

HeftyDanielson= the cost of a conversion is cheaper than buying a half decent vtr.

Thanks for the replies guys!

MandySlover70= at what cost do you do your conversions for?
I'm based in Northampton but I'd be willing to travel if i was to do a conversion :)
Also, what price am I looking at for a decent Vtr engine, mileage between 40-80k?

this tbh ^

although i wouldnt bother declaring a vtr engine as it look near enough exactly the same. However a 16valve might be pushing your luck a bit, saying that ive never heard of an insurance assessor having a look under the bonnet soo... its upto you

just get a vtr though. Its such a better base to start with. Has better interior, electric windows, power steering, discs rear beam, better suspension, better anti roll bars, bigger brakes, alloys as standard, doesnt have the wank looking flat arch look... Baffles me as to why you'd bother tbh

tweeqd have a website?

Eloise

I'll have a look on tweeqd, thanks :)

LSOFreak= I have pretty much all that on my car now, I've got my own interior, start/stop button, rcl, lined up for new breaks and discs. Ive had too much time on my hands and my car has just been my hobby.. I get what you mean about the flat arches, but i like the idea of the car looking like a 1.1 but really being a 1.6... I respect everyones opinions though :y:

I can recommend mandyslover, did my vts conversion just over a month ago and i travelled further than you would have to as i'm in Aylesbury. Brilliant guy and knows his stuff, was literally a drive in- drive out service.

How much was the labour on your VTS conversion?
I've been given a price of 300 so far but I'll have a look around at tweeqd and Mandyslover definitely, sounds like the kinda man I need :y:

krisb does it at a reasonable price if i remember correctly.... from gatwick area

Karlb1
25th January 2012, 00:27
Yeah Kris does do conversions but iirc you have to supply all the parts and he does the fitting. Mandyslover does supplied and fitted since he breaks saxos. Both great guys though that do brilliant work, just depends if you need it supplied or not and where you are.

Can't recommend Mandyslover enough again. Did my suspension and induction absolutely perfect job and very reasonable. Going there at the end of the month to have gti 180 brakes and a load of other work done. I travel from London! But it's well worth it..

nice one! Blimey, so you guys have travelled far... to be honest though, sometimes its the better option!

Mandyslover sounds like a pretty damn good option... supplied and fitted i hear for 400?
Thats a damn good price
Im in lanzarote from sunday for 2 weeks but after that i shall be getting back to him about a conversion for me..
i'll search around, because i have seen some other decent french car specialists as a lot of you have mentioned.. but fitted and supplied for 400 sounds like a top deal..

tweeqd have a website?

Martin is - tweeqd on here.

All his sites/fan pages etc.. are on his profile/sig.

As I said in my initial post though hes southern region, so depends where the OP is based. No point in a £200 conversion in scotland if you have to drive from kent to do it for example.

what year car is yours? we do single plug S conversions for approx £850 supplied and fitted inc new cambelt kit, valeo clutch and service parts. R conversions are cheaper but not supplied and fitted for £400 sadly

yep, we put it into my mates vtr as a stop gap measure whilst he repaired his quicksilver, thats turned into a project so the vtr is still going, starting to smoke a bit now but its seen some mileage!

holdawayt
25th January 2012, 17:26
Yeah I think the piston rings / valve stem seals could do with being replaced as it was a bit smokey when cold when I owned it. Glad it's still being used though, it worked well when it wanted to.

IIRC I got the engine for about 250 and fitting was bout 300 give or take cis we had a few issues with the loom and stuff. Best to PM then first ESP if ur only after an R engine. They like to supply it too now so there are no fuck ups like mine lol

Get in touch with us and we can source engines and conversion parts.
Currently very excited about plans to smooth an engine bay on standard management lol x

me and my housemate are fitting a a vtr engine for £200 supplied and fitted in to our mates car £100 for the engine and £100 profit to split between us for half a days work, we arent changing anything on the engine though hence it being cheap
