Car started misfiring tonight, 98 VTS. Sounds burbly like a subaru when it does so, and stinks of fuel. Symptoms:

seems to be above a certain rpm - 4th gear goes up to about 30mph before misfiring;
NOT throttle related, no throttle angle seems to cause the misfire;
NOT load related, you can put it in 5th at 15 and floor it, and it seems fine.

Im thinking probably crank sensor, any other suggestions? Car is standard save for a stainless exhaust

Coilpack or a dodgey spark plug.

Check all of the above :)

I would remove the sparkies, clean them up and refit to see if this resolved the issue as a first step.
