hi guys, im about to do a saxo mk2 2001 vtr engine change into a 2001 mk2 1.1 peugeot 106 i basically need to know if it will plug and play and what the deal is with the immobiliser and getting a unlocked ecu etc... i have the vtr engine and vtr ecu but no vtr wiring at all, i was going to use all my 1.1 loom and plug and play with 3 plug ecu. im also concerned about the immobiliser kicking in so how would i be able to bypass that safely and permanently for the unlocked vtr ecu to work without problems???? is there any parts i need to uprate to my 1.1 to accomadate the vtr engine?

first of all is the vtr ecu unlocked? if not then you need to get that sorted first costs about £65 to get it done, thats if the last owner was lazy and didnt unlock it for free, and before you plug your unlocked ecu in make sure youve taken out your old immobiliser out!! otherwise it'll lock again, if its been done professionally then it shouldnt lock it self but take the immobiliser out as its not doing anything anwyay
saxo looms dont plug in to 106 interior looms what what i remember
also i dont think the 106 ever used the 98bhp vtr engine so its not like you can get the right loom
if it was me id get a three plug vtr loom and splice the 1.1 106 multi plug connector on

also you will want vtr drive shafts, these will fit your 1.1 box fine, just make sure you get tapered ones (guessing thats what a 2001 106 uses)

I was told i wont need the driveshafts cos u only need them if your changing gearboxes and have vtr struts, im keeping my 1.1 gearbox on it, Wheres the immobiliser located and is as simple as unplugging it?

IS changing drive shafts really that necessary? Then again i went from a 1.4 to a 1.6vtr so it wasn't a massive difference to me

its more to do with vt*'s having two piece shafts to cope with the torque, 1.1 engines are single piece shafts, you'll get torque steer
and only changing driveshafts because your changing boxes is a load of shit (kind of), if your fitting a vt box then yes you have to change shafts as 1.1 shafts will leak oil, but you can fit vt shafts in to a 1.1 box as the shaft will go all the way in to the diff and again having 1.1 struts or vtr struts makes no difference to what shafts you use, its all down to the shape of the bearings/shafts
the imobiliser box is up behind the dashboard, use the search button there is a guide to removing it, and yes it is as simple as unplugging it
im guessing your vtr ecu isnt unlocked? if so its pretty worthless and might as well throw it away, will be cheaper to buy an unlocked ecu than it will be to unlock your ecu, however as people dont really want vtr engines, there isnt a lot of unlocked vtr ecus for sale
how much did you pay fro the vtr engine?

oh ok so if i was to buy vtr driveshafts it will all fit ok for me? ive had a search already and its so painful as people dont show clearly where it is and just comment how easy it was lol no my vtr ecu isnt unlocked but i was under the impression when looked into its a part exchange for a already unlocked one they have.

Ah ok fair enough, make sure you get the right shafts for your hubs early saxos use flat ones and later saxos use tapered ones look at your shafts to double check

Think the tapered shafts started on the W reg saxos, Changed one of mine today after the boot split.
CV oil everywhere on my alloy :n:

you can use 1.1 shafts, just unscrew the support for the 2 piece bearing off the back of the black.
keep hold of it though because id eventually fit a vtr (i prefer vts personally) gearbox and driveshafts.

also i think you could get away with the 106 xs loom, i think they used the 3 plug 1.6
another option, ive never tried it personally but the 8v blocks are very similar so theres every chance the 1.1 loom will fit the vtr engine but youll need the vtr ecu.
to keep the vtr ecu unlocked start the car (while its got the 1.1) and find the ecu box behind the glovebox, black box about the size of 20 fags with a multiplug plugged into it

No one sad he couldn't use 1.1 shafts I was just saying to cope with the torque its best to use the vts shafts

106 xs`s used the older 90bhp vtr engines which used ht leads instead of coil packs
