Well, after 6 years driving, 8 French cars, I decided its finally time I try out a car from another part of the world..

Trawling through ebay last night, I searched cars under 500 quid within 50 miles of where I live.. Plenty of sheds turned up, then a car listed as "Honda Convertible"

So i took a gander, and it was a Honda CRX Del Sol.. Used to look at these a few years back and think they were half decent, So i slapped a 500 quid bid onto it to see what happens, sat in the pub, and get a notification from my ebay app, unexpectedly id won!!

Going to pick it up tomorrow..

500 quid
11 Months MOT
4 Months Tax
FSH
All previous MOT's
And a massive envelope full of receipts..

Its only the 1.6 16V ESI, so no Vtec, but i dont want to spend a fortune on fuel anyway, and they are 123BHP Standard, so not bad at all really..

Thats a great car for £500. Doubt it will ever go wrong, well not break down as many times as a saxo.

Full comp is sometimes cheaper as the insurance company look at it as though you look after the car more. So if the car were to be involved in a accident both cars would be repaired, instead of the other car involved.

Not really looking no, just what i've noticed. Hence why I said i've never noticed. Just most posts seem to be putting someone down in whatever way possible

Looks a good buy for £500 with the amount of MOT and tax. They're quite fun to drive, I had go in one, it must be nearly 7 years ago now, and I was surprised how stable it was. That was compared to my 12 year old Orion at the time though!

Tesco have just quoted me in the 700s for fully comp, not bad considering i have 11 points..

Exactly mate, only looking for something to run for abit, if it turns out all good condition, il do bits to it, not looking for big power either, got sick of hammering fuel into my megane, so hopefully the 1.6 will be miles less thirsty!

There is one thing these cars need and it's an EG front end swap as it totally transforms the look and makes them actually look nice.

As for Gibbos Del Slow comment I'd say it's a fair point as this is what they are referred to in even Honda groups.

Anyhow hope it's as clean as it looks and for £500 you can't go wrong.

Ahhh Looks mucho better with a EG front. Is that easyish to do?

A mate did it in a weekend on his driveway so I wouldn't say it was particularly taxing.

Apparently its got a Lip Kit? Which im guessing is the splitters on the bumpers.. Spotted some cheap coilovers for it already, so might be made pretty decent pretty quickly..

Nice catch for the money smithey.

Could make a decent project out of this, tuned B18 whacked in there and away you go.

Handling and stopping sorted before any engine plans are made, and see what the underneath is like, but for 500 quid and 11 months MOT, even if its rotton underneath it can serve its life with the roof down through summer!

Jazz
23rd March 2012, 19:08
Very true. If nothing else it will make a fun little runabout for the summer.

Enjoy.

More hassle than you'd expect as it is a non-vtec base car.

The D16Z6 in these do have Vtec. Its not quite like the B series etc, but is known as "baby vtec"

Slap a turbo kit on it, those engine's looooove boost.

i was about to say about the baby vtec, mine had the same engine :D
not keen on the eg front end swaps, think they looks fine as they are
the back window was my favourite thing about it ha

Aye picked it up, all round good condition, 2 tiny bubbles of rust, quoted 100 to have it put right.. The 17's need to come off, working on getting some 15's, and already found some coilovers for it.. So shouldnt be long before its looking pretty decent!

Runs really well, 99k on the clock, and cam belt was done at 89k, Pulls well, and everything works!
