iv done a conversion form 1.4 furio to vtr and some unfortunate circumstances with a new clutch means im having to get the vtr gearbox off the engine again. but had a thought.... does the 1.4 gearbox have a shorter ratio than a vtr box so it will accelerate a bit quicker off the lights? im not arsed about loosing much top end i mean the furio box hits 120 anyways and im not loosing my licence so.......

should i keep the vtr one on or stick the 1.4 on?

please no comments about buying another box (1.1 etc) as i have a vtr box and a 1.4 box so its a choice out of them 2

check the gearbox thread on here will tell you all you need to know. However I wouldnt be fitting a standard vtr box

had a look at it and the numbers are a tad confusing to me haha :wall:

how so? match your gearbox/car to the data on the sheet and it'll tell you what speeds the car will achieve in each gear, depending on engine rev limit. The VTR box is long

yeah the 1.4 hits a lower speed threw 1st and 2nd gears over the vtr.
also the numbers on the ratio are higher in 1st and 2nd. so to me that looks like the 1.4 one is slower. but i was told it may be faster. thats whats confusing me lol

just done a bit more research and on a few threads it says the 1.4 box is ever so slightly quicker in 1st and 2nd and the other 3 gears are the same also so is top end. mite just stick the 1.4 box on. those numbers still confuse me tho. i thought the higher the number on the ratio the slower the box

its the opposite way round to that mate. My VTR now has a maximum speed in 5th of 105.6 mph with an s1 rallye box on it

There wont be much in it really, thats why I'd get a different box altogether

no spare money for a different box.
so between the two (1.4 furio, vtr) the furio one will be ever so slightly the better option?

Id probably fit the furio box to be honest, at least then you wont run into the potential problems people have with shafts and so on. You will be missing the anti-torque steer bearing/support from the vtr shafts however?

not using vtr shafts. stuck the furio ones in

if money would allow id fit a vts box personally. much closer ratios.

but over the vtr and 1.4, id try the 1.4 as vtr box is crap.
