Hi new to the forums although I have been doing allot of research on here over the past week and learned allot tbh.
Anyway onto my question got my first saxo vtr with the hope of tuning it I have been trying to see which engine I have whether its the old mk1 or mk2 and what the difference was in bhp between them also if I already have a 4-2-1 manifold fitted or if I have to get one here's a pic.

The car is a 51 plate and has the registration as 2002 and likes I say it a vtr
I think a remembered everything cheers for any help :)

3 plug ecu, cat in manifold so you have the 98 bhp phase 2 engine, obviously being a mark 2. However your rocker cover is from the earlier version and sprayed silver.
Mk 1 engine is 90bhp to answer and also you need a 421 manifold.

As said, looks as though you have a mk2 engine with a mk1 rocker cover. Looks as though you have got a 4-2-1 manifold already.

Ah I see well the rocker cover is what was throwing me a little bit as all the vtr's I have seen have the red Citroen badge in the top left.
Another thing is I just dropped it off somewhere to have a full cat back stainless steel exhaust on and I was asking the guy if they would not mind putting me a Pipercross Viper on while he was doing the exhaust and i quote
"We cannot do induction for these as you have to many hoses going into the air box and if you replace the main air box there's a sensor in the top of it that if you remove it goes into limp mode"
So can I even do induction on this or just a panel filter?
cheers

that man is spouting pure bum gravy. no sensors at all until you reach the throttle body, so you can do what you like with it

someones put a blacktop rocker cover onto it, and the same airbox setup aswell, hence the horrible white bit of extension pipe.

Ah right I see so its the new engine but just the top has been changed and because someone did that they had to go back to the old airbox system so if i just get a Pipercross Viper from years 00>04 then it will revert back to what it should be anyway, or will i need to change the rocker cover back as well?
Cheers for the help btw also just to confirm i don't need to get a 4-2-1 manifold?
Also any other tips on what to get at the moment in my basket of stuff to order today i have,
Pipercross Viper
Brembo Max front brakes
Brembo Max rear brakes
Carbon fibre bonnet
Powerflex bushes total front set
Thanks again

nope, leave the rocker as it is unless you want the MK2 silver top rocker

imo thats the better design of rocker cover, i believe the breather to be larger not that it makes much difference. I'd pop it off and see what rocker setup you are running, you might be running a rallye/xsi/blacktop head (providing that mk2 stat housing fits those as ive never tried it)

manifold you have is one of them mk2 sportex jobbies

Actually I think I might be chatting bollocks as the mk2 inlet wouldnt fit a blacktop head, unless there is one thats similar but with the 00--00 port layout

brill well i ordered all those parts, i will be taking some photos of the project from start to end as i will be turning into a track car for the road.
I know in regards to that one of the best mods is sticking a VTS engine in there but tbh i kinda just want to give some love to the vtr 8v instead :) although who knows it would be one of the last things i do if i did it anyway.
If anyone has any ideas of what else i could get as a good start to go along with the bits i ordered today that would be awesome.
Thanks again

Free flowing exhaust, rallye/xsi head if you need one, maybe a cam to go in said head (even though the J 270 degree cam is mild anyway) and a decent gearbox such as an xsi/vts/rallye one

be turning into a track car for the road.
if you go full track car its going to be really shit every day driving.
what you want is good fast road set up. what suspension have you got? OE? you want to set up your suspension, brakes and wheels first if you serious about what your doing. what do your mean you bought brembo max brakes? just the discs? if your not uprating your calipers the best thing you can do with standard brakes is just get some better pads, as you've already got new discs.
