I'm caught in two minds as to wether or not I should convert my vtr to a vts or just stick a turbo on it.

What sort or price are either gonna cost me? And is having 16v really that much better.

Perhaps you lot can help me decide;)

You don't just 'stick' a turbo on so sounds like you should stay clear of that idea lol. A 16v will cost anywhere between £200-£800 depending if you can do it yourself etc etc.....

I'm handy with a set of tools and there's a vts at my local scrappy, the bloke said he wants 100 quid for the lump, would I be stupid not too?

Hear it running first and unlock the ECU while your there, as you will need it (ECU) and wiring loom along with injectors etc feul return line, inlet manifold exhaust manifold basicly the lot not just the 'lump'

You need more than just the engine.

I'd turbo it using a gt1752 off a saab
Decomp plate
Stand alone ecu an a decent map should see u around 180-190hp
Obviously u need more than jus that but basically that the crack lol

id agree with turbo or get the vts conversion if you can cheaply enough then turbo the vts

If wanting a vtr to get 190 I wouldn't use a gt17

Its often argued it does not really matter what TU iron block engine you start with if your after cheap fun with a turbo. This is as just as easy to get enough power out of a 106xsi 1.4 as a Saxo VTS to start ripping the gearbox and other parts apart. So unless your planning on spending a small fortune on stronger gearbox, custom engine mounts and forged internals then it does not matter all that much what you start with.
