Better off getting a Vts!
Less hastle, easier to insure etc........

1.1s have better chassis?
Pretty sure they're all the same..

thats what i was thinking as they are all pretty much the same cars, do you know how much it will be to insure a vts as im 18 years old?

Depends on where you live etc. I'm 23 and pay 1100 f/c with 4 years no claims but I am under a BD postcode which is a pretty bad area to get insured.

I think if your postcode is anywhere near a big city down south then your focked i pay 460 on a VTS and im 37 but i do live under a Croydon postcode so i get rinsed basically.

And the rest.
One years NCB will barely make a dent, cheap is sub £500.

18 and a VTS is a no chance.
VTR is only shy of a VTS but you could insure one.
convert the 1.1 to a VTR.
same year same parts as a rule. so what ever year your 1.1 is, find a VTR from the same thats had a rear smash or something and swap the front.

Depends where you are and age though. I was 25 and insured a 182 with 0 ncb for £900

best option would be to buy a cheap vtr engine - can be had for £50, take it to mandyslover to fit, dont bother telling insurance or dvla etc. as no one would ever know seeing as it looks identical to the standard engine.
And then in a year or 2 when you build up a couple ncb, then buy a vts.
At 18 years old, a vts will be expensive. Also i wouldnt want to do a vts conversion becuase:
1) it'll still look turd as it wont have the vt bodykit/interior.
2) i wouldnt want to risk driving around an undeclared 16valve engine incase you have an accident
The only positive point about a conversion is that it'll make a good sleeper tbh
also, they're all the same chassis lol

thanks mate :) how much will they charge me to fit? and i thought vtr's and vts's are pretty much the same?
LSOfreak
18th May 2012, 20:59
nope, vts is 16valve so more quicker, expensive on insurance, more on fuel, more on road tax

ahh cheers mate :) so there is no point in me modding my 1.1, may aswell just buy a vts and mod that instead :)

Its all down to what you can afford which is why people go for the 1.4s, vtrs.
Only thing is the vts can be thirsty on a good hoon, tax is :homme: and insurance may be abit :panic:
ive got no points, crashes and 4ncbs and im paying 1k still...

I would just get the same engine out a peugeot 307 or 206 (1.6 16v) and tell insurance, will be way cheaper then telling them its a vts.
Insurance figures for saxos put me of a few weeks ago.
I'm 20
1 ncb
Average area
3years driving
£1550 fully comp on a audi a4 2 litre tdi s line avant, group insurance 29/50.
My old saxo 1.4 was £1200 fully comp, can see now why I moved on from saxos.

thats good as i will want a bigger engine, what about in a 1.4?
LSOfreak
18th May 2012, 22:30
i wouldnt spend money modding a 1.1 tbh or if you do, i wouldnt throw alot of money at it!
may aswell start on a faster, better looking, better equipped base
wait to get a 1.4 or 1.6 vtr and go crazy on that
jamie1994
18th May 2012, 22:34
im thinking of a furio as they are not too expensive and i have the money saved up already, but can i put a vts engine in it as an when i want?
jamie1994
18th May 2012, 23:05
i will upgrade to a 1.4 then if you can put a vts engine in it

18th May 2012, 23:15
You sound so desperate to run a vts engine lol believe me there not as quick as people say, unless you spend money on cams, mapping, throttle bodies etc then they will be quick.
jamie1994
18th May 2012, 23:23
yeah people make them sound amazing

Tbh the first week/2 i went from a 1.0 16v car. i grinned like nothing! seriously i blipped the throttle i had a seizure. fun!
nearly 6 months on it feels slow but thats like anything, you get used to its power. get it passed 4 to 6.5k and its whips a smile on. does me anyway
jamie1994
18th May 2012, 23:32
yeah :) i just want a decent pretty fast car to have fun instead of a 1.1

i had a vtr as my first car at 17
i was a hero compared to everyone else with 1.1's and 1.2's lol

a VTR costs more to insure than my 172 and my 182 cup..
i pay £160pm on a VTR and £111/£120 on the clio's
dd40*
an the 1.1 has rear drum brakes.

We are in Milton Keynes and do a few engine conversions.
Also have a Vts up for sale :)

19th May 2012, 10:57
Im 19 and paying 1300 on a vtr/s and iv had declared the engine swap, i just havent got the money to declare the throttle bodies i just put on just yet so at the moment if i get pulled and the police check the car over i will probably get shafted
if you really want to do the conversion take it to someone on here as pretty much everyone that offers it has a very good knowledge of what they are doing :P
jamie1994
19th May 2012, 14:03
yeah because im 18 and only just passed so vts and vtr is out of the question really so 1.4s are my only option
LSOfreak
19th May 2012, 14:49
a 1.4 westcoast or furio is definitely a better option than a 1.1
has the vt bodykit and sometimes better interior too (if its a later furio)

But if you do crash and insurance checks and does discover a 1.6 8v conversion you will get distroyed

this is true, BUT they are practically identical only the airboxes look different IIRC they are hardly going to RR it to check its power
LSOfreak
19th May 2012, 15:53
they look literally identical
how would an assessor know its a 1.6 or 1.1 lol
Prickle
19th May 2012, 15:56
Or they could look at the code on the side of the engine?
LSOfreak
19th May 2012, 16:50
chances of that are quite slim from what ive seen though. It is a risk yeah but from my experience, the assessor usually only opens the bonnet to see if the chassis legs bent...

il just buy a furio as that seems the cheaper and easier option :) do you know if the furio has a vt bodykit?
