Anything enclosed
So so so wrong baz. You should know better...
BMC is enclosed and finally people are starting to wake up and realise they're junk.

Ive been saying this for years! But people seem to think they're good because they 'notice' a difference. Never seen any proof on any car of these having positive effects.

Has anyone ever done any RR comparisons with filters? Wouldn't it be a really good idea to do this?
Take a stock vtr and S down to someones RR and and try all of the ones mentioned above.
I'm sure a few people would offer their kit to try out for a few hours?
Then we will know definitively!
I have a BMC CDA on the S but purely because it was fitted when I got the car. There is no way on this planet I'd go out and buy one new. Overpriced IMO, fairly quiet though and no idea how it has effected performance? Doenst feel particularly quick to me, but mine has done 111k and feels tired.

In redline magazine years ago they did a test of about 6 types of filters on a mk1 tt
the biggest gain they had was with a panal filter, and lost power over the OE box with an enclosed lol.
save your self time money and hassle, just clean your OE filter. science dictates your not going to gain anything with a "performance" filter, but the added induction roar creates a placebo effect. which you may percieve as, OMFGZ ITS ADDED LIKE 20 HORSE POWERZ BRAH!!.

Why would you waste your time cleaning a panel filter when you can buy them for less than a tenner from the factors :detective:

OE is okay till your consuming more air than it was designed for.

I sell BMC and i can tell you the CDA is "The" worst culprit for loss of power in a NA car.
Everytime I see one I sigh.

Just the man, you must have done some back to back testing?
The BMCs are ridiculously
Expensive for what they do, or don't. I had my suspicions they were not very good.
So how do they fare on boosted aplications?

I don't think my current engine would last too long, but when I put the new one in and got some miles on it we can do that:)
At least filters are quick and easy to swap around. Could do the same with exhausts but would take a little longer lol!

Forced induction aint so bad as theres more heat in the bay so you gain a lil from having it protected.
Its utter shite tho mate on all NA applications, believe me if i wanted to i could waffle to customers and sell loads, i refuse to though it doesnt work so its gash.
We've been disconnecting these on dyno runs for 12months now and seeing bhp improvements of upto 10bhp. Whilst scientifically thats not the fairest of tests, please do come down armed with allsorts and we will run a SAXP experiment.

Heat doesn't really matter so much on a turbo application, as the intake air is going to get massively heated by a red hot turbo. Its the intercooling efficiency that's going to make the difference.
Its CFM that's important with boost isn't it.

Might aswell just leave the standard one in, possibly buy a panel filter for it

The problem with many induction kits is they are designed for standard vehicles. Basically the filter/inlet is too small as soon as the power increases significantly. A BMC will only work well on a boosted saxo if its oversized to flow enough air - otherwise you are simply going to restrict air to the engine.
Open inductions are easier to get bigger filters on, but we have seen decent gains when fitting the bigger filters onto simota and raceland enclosed. Standard size on those flows enough for 130bhp

Bet bet Steve would just be to do a pressure drop test across the various filters. Requires a bit of design work to mate to a dyson or similar but you get repeatability and avoid the variances of the RR.
