help on engine mods

ive got a saxo 1.6 vtr , its got a 4-2-1 manifold with a straight through exhaust and powerflow backbox , also it has a 106gti gearbox fitted , i want to make it faster but without adding turbo or supercharger (because of cost) , what can i do to it to make a big difference in power , any suggestions will be great thanks

If you havent already done so get your self new induction, then id back the car lighter..Removing anything thats not needed..rear seats etc. You wont really see a huge differences though but definatly some improvement.
