View Full Version : Does a Manifold...........?

Does a Performance manifold actually change the exhaust note?

Its just because Ive heard that a 4-1 would make it raspy. Would a 4-2-1 do the same? As I'd like the Raceland one!

Thanks in advance!

If that 4-1 is made of very thin metal then it could sound raspy, but that had nothing to do with the 4-1 design.

and yes it does change the exhaust note.

So does a 4-1 and a 4-2-1 change the sound in the same way???

Their will be very difference in sound in the 4-1 and 4-2-1

Both will change the exhaust note though

I'd recommend 4-1 on a VTR (for performance)

why not 4-2-1 ? for low end performance, you already opted for low end, due to your 1.1 box, why didnt you go for a 4-2-1 ? i mean in theory aint you 4-1 working against your 1.1 box ? 1.1 = quick to go, less top end, and your 4-1, normal to go and more top end ? :S i dont know if im making any sence but someone will know what i mean !!! ........

I no what you mean and yes your probably correct but their is two ways of looking at it.

The 8v already boasts better low end torque than the 16v so an improvement higher up the rev range suited me better

Yes im working against the 1.1 box but this box was added after the manifold and cost me nothing. So really what i should do with the mods i've got done is to get a 4-2-1. But why ?????

thats the thing m8, i know the 8v vtr has better low end (or so they say, even though my cousins r reg standard vts leaves me for shreads) ...... on this basis why not improve the low end more :) i mean ! only makes sence, as not like you want to do top end all the time, keeping to speed limits and all and not going too too fast (mph wise) and getting done for it, all im saying is that by having a 4-2-1 instead of a 4-1 on a vtr, well on your vtr, with the 1.1 box, would make taking off from the lights and necersary (sp) overtaking a joy ! dont you think so ?

Reefs got a very good point as i'm in a similar situation.

I have a straight through to backbox exhaust and its improved my top end alot. But I have lost a VERY small amount low end. Therefore if I chose a 4-2-1, it would cancel the loss out or if I chose a 4-1, I would just have top end.

What do I choose then? I want stainless but at a good price. This then equals the Raceland.

But I want it to change my exhaust note to be more raspy and I have heard a 4-1 does this. Therefore its the GMC.

Bot 4-1 and 4-2-1 change the exhaust note (for the better i think), i was looking at the raceland a while back and if i was to buy a minfold for my saxo, it would be the raceland one for sure.

I drive like a complete twat so my manifold suits me better :)

Im happy with my low down performance as i do keep up with standard VTS to 55mph then they go past me like im not moving

Its not how fast you drive its how you drive fast !!!!
