im away to do a vts conversion on a mates car, his is currently a quicksilver engine 1.4 and he just had a brand new clutch put in not long ago...however he is using the 1.4 box with the vts engine but will his clutch be up to the job?or will i need the gti one?

You will need the gti one.

you ALWAYS use the clutch that suits the engine not the gearbox

I agree with above, but the 1.4 clutch will fit if using the 1.4 fly wheel! The 1.4 clutch is 180mm & VTS/VTR 200mm, difference in flywheel and innertia iirc.

The 1.4 180mm clutch will take less torque/power due to smaller contact surface area, and also being designed for a 1.4.

Wouldnt put a smaller clutch than required. It will last no time at all and you'll end up doing it all over again. Put a good clutch in there and forget about it. It will cost more to buy, but it will cost less in the long run as you'll save on replacments
