Can somebody explain how a 1.1 radiator works please! I have a morris clubman that I'm wanting to install a front mounted radiator (they're usually stuck on the end of the engine at the inner wing). I have a saxo radiator that I want to use but the expansion tank thats built onto the end of the rad makes me think the top of the radiator needs to be higher than the highest part of the engine. If it isn't then I'll have air trapped in the engine I think. Can someone please set me right?!

There's 3 bleed points throughout the engine on the saxo, it's also recommended that you get a header tank, or make one when filling the radiator up. You shouldn't have much trouble if you've got the right pipe work

Do you mean the radiator or the cooling system?

Cheers guys, It's how the rad is made that I've got the problem with. The header tank thats on the end of the rad (is it a true header tank?) is plumbed to the rad at the bottom so how does any air escape from the rad? But as has been said there's bleed points throughout the saxo engine, which I may have to put into the plumbing on my engine. I may have to put in a seperate header tank, would I need to somehow pipe this into the rad or can I tee it off a pipe? The highest point on my mini engine is the thermostat housing on top of the cylinder head, a pipe comes off this housing to the rad. I could make a tee off this pipe to a header tank, does anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks for the replys!

Yes, it's essentially a normal header tank, it fills the rad at the bottom.

Cheers Kriss, the saxo rad when positioned as high as possible in my mini will end up with the top of the rad more or less level with the highest point on my mini engine (thermostat housing where the top hose joins onto) This will probably mean that the water level in the expansion tank when the system is filled up will be near the top so I'm thinking I may have problems with it throwing out water. Should I plumb a second expansion tank off the pipe coming off the thermostat housing with a lid that opens with less preasure than the one on the saxo rad? Or can I plumb some kind of bleed valve instead?

I wouldn't think you'd have any problems mate =/
