1.4 price

Been looking about to put a 1.4 into my 1.1 just for that little extra go, plus you can do a bit more to "tune" it slightly, if you can call it that. But was wondering what would be a good price for a say a 70-90k one. Seen some for about a tonne but some for quite a lot more.

And if your just going to turn round and say "get a vtr 1.6" don't bother wasting your time.

You would be looking at around £100-350 for an engine depending on mileage and age tbh, and then there the cost to get it fitted of you can do it yourself, plus extra £££ for any issues/ problems you might come across :y:, would be easier to sell your 1.1 and add the money youd pay for an engine and fitting and you could buy a 1.4/furio anyway :y:

Well i can do it myself. And looking for put away around £200 quid total. Will get a single plug loom with the engine and just get the ecu unlocked, other than that i don't need much else. A hg change and cambelt perhaps but other than that. . . . Just didn't wanna buy an engine for way over the odds.

If you want to source an engine with less risk than the ebay option you can get anything you want from here > www.partsgateway.com , you need to sign up but its easy. And they do all the leg work, just put your reg in and tell them exactly what you want and they will quote you. They are very competitive :y:

Well i wasn't going to buy one just like that, would ideally prefer to pay a bit extra for one i can see running. There was on ebay that was still in the car and you paid a deposit after seeing it running then you go back a week after and its out the engine. Not sure what scrappys would be like. The one i go to sometimes has full cars with wing damage but mint engines, might see if they sell them. Only draw back being they probably won't know fuck all about the history of it :/

I would pay between £40-80, people can't give vtr engines away, only scrap yards will charge a lot for a 1.4 engine

You're wasting your time putting a 1.4 init why not just bide your time and wait till you have enough NCB to insure a VTR/ something better? All I ever here on here 'I've just done <insert conversion> and now it won't start!!'

Only the more fruity 8vs command a bit more money (1.4xsi, s1 rallye 1.3 and s2 rallye/xsi 1.6). If you are intent on fitting a 1.4, if it were me put in a 1400 xsi 8v unit. They make 100 bhp with associated ECU/Loom and its Z cam

I'm confused.. You would pay to upgrade to just a 1.4, but it would still look like a 1.1? Why not just get a 1.4? And if your going to say because you aren't declaring it then ryanoo is right..

Depends on the car. Black tops fit the early single plug ECU models with a bit of tweaking and should plug into the loom no bother providing you swap a few things over. However I wouldnt reckon a 100bhp xsi engine would be too happy running on furio gear, but I cant comment as Ive not tried it. If you want the XSi ecu and loom you are going to need loom mods and modifications to splice it in the body loom too.
When I put an s2 rallye black top in my silvertop mk1 vtr, I just swapped all sensors from the vtr engine onto the rallye one. The knock sensor on the rear of the engine was the only issue as I had to tap the hole for it.

Well one, if i brought just a 1.4 it would still look the same anyway so thats stupid comment in itself. Its also cheaper to put a 1.4 in it than buy a 1.4. I know the history of the car brakes etc wise, also if i brought another car i'd also have to spend money on modding it like mine again and have the hassle of selling mine. Also why if i'm declaring it i should just a vtr in? Which btw i said in the op i have no time for people saying that. A 1.4 is in the same tax bracket, is alot of better peformance wise than mine, also its only another £90 a year with my insurer.

thing is though you are only going to 75bhp. Is it worth all that effort? you might as well just get something faster out the box. Plus a factory 1400 is going to be less to insure than a converted 1.1

Why not? ? I'd enjoy do it, it would be better than my 1.1. Plus i could do a little bit more to it. My mates got a 1.4 pug and he's done a couple of things and it shits on my car also like i said its only £90 more to insure. Already checked.

Dont get me wrong, its fun to work on a car etc. But what could you do to a 75bhp 8v? its still going to be inferior most things unless you start spending silly money or start with a decent unit to begin with

But to have a car with decent power will A cost me loads to insure B be more hassle to run C gernally more money to buy. I just want something to keep me busy and get something a bit better than what i got already. In my opinion theres nothing wrong with that, just wanted to know what sort of prices they were and what i should expect for my money.
