I wanted to do the same thing but VTS conversion 1k if done by garage with engine provided, Turbo kit around 2k if done with standard parts.
Go for the conversion

Sophia Bush has done this a few times. If you search for it there are quite a few threads on the projects. The cost of such a project really depends on how much you can do your self. People have turbo charged these for not a lot though often the end result is unreliable at best. I have seen it done for £300 ish but the words botch and crock of s@@t come to mind. Spend a bit more and you can make your self something rather nice. Go a bit further say £1500 and the right know how will get you a great little toy. You can spend way more depending how far you wish to go. If you need to pay some one to do it all though and you could spend many times this.

what are you getting for your £12k there? looks nice, but how can just the engine alone add up to £12k?

i dont know all the ins and outs of whats included, but imagine how much worked is invovled in getting 400bhp+ out of a 1.6 engine, its not coming cheap, and you've got to remember the labour charge of fitting it and the warrenty thats included, were not talking about any old 16v engine with a low boost turbo bolted to it lol its cost me £3k to just add bodies, cams and a ecu to my car for 155 bhp lol

theres alot of stuff included that you cant see there

Easily justifiable IMO

I'd bet there's some money in parts alone on that engine

more like £1200 to be fair. £3k seems steep

can do a good boost conversion on a furio for around 1.5-2k mapped up properly depending how neat you want it to look, 16v conversions ten a penny now could do one for about 5-600 ish after getting a few service items done and extras could prob buy a whole car for that have what you want sell bits off it and make most money back

depends on too many things though eg parts used..labour if any..and new or used parts

jeffchizz is running jenvey's which are probs the most pricey off all the bodies fitted..new set would pretty much wipe all you spent out lol

its all relative really

yeah thats a fair point. i was trying to be as cheap as possible whilst still doing a decent job, going for new jenveys would have blown my budget completely

good crack on getting it done that cheap though

Finger slippage meant £2k lol just added it up I think its cost me £2500 which included jenvey bodies, 708s, preadator ecu, mapping, headgasket and cambelt kit, head skim, 421, ss pipe, piper back box and some labour for sorting some problems out

And then fitted gti brakes polybushed the front end and harder engine mounts and wish bone mounts so probs near on 3k with everything included to make use of the extra power

My budget would have been blown If I paid full price for the jenveys aswell lol

£12k is a ripoff for that engine imo.

PS - 400hp on the standard inlet? good luck with that...

people spend alot of stupid money on making power, you have to ask, is it the saxo you want, or is it the speed you want. for example, you have a 1.4, if you want it to go well, strip it out and put either a vtr lump in it or a vts. it will cost you a few hundred quid and it will go pretty well.
if you want to go faster, i wouldnt recommend spending buckets on a car designed to be cheap and nippy when £2000 buys you a fairly decent subaru impreza or 200sx that will have just shy of 280bhp with simple breathing mods.
If you really love your saxo, to make it go quick is easy enough, but to make it be a competition worth street legal racing car will cost you and i wouldnt bother going anywhere with the 1.4 lump

To counter that Matt, £2000 might be the price for the subaru, but it's also the insurance renewal for most reading this thread...

I do totally see your point but spend £2000 on your existing saxo and you can transform it into a GREAT little fast car - one that will out handle the subaru and be more fun!

I have seen 200bhp saxos run rings round cars with much more power on the track. Its not all about power. On the old sprint racing I often seen 1.4 AXs and 205s show up 2ltr and even 2ltr turbo cards ;)

My vtr turbo costs under 1k to insure all in, and despite the turbo still returns good mpg when driven sensibly,

A Subaru needs to have 340+ (only known have beaten scoobs and evos with about 320, could have raced more powerfull ones but I don't know), which even when driven sensible would get shit mpg

Then you got the tax and insurance before you even think of modding

I know what I'd rather drive with cost of living these days lol

blackie, i'll not rub your nose in in by saying my 106 costs £360 to insure, all in then.

Yeah but I'm only 23 :(. Six points never helped mind lol

I will say now I'm down to 3 points my renewal is weighing in about £850 (due next month) gonna try get it down a bit more if I can but I can see it haha

For reference a standard impreza wrx would be about £1800 :fcuk:

Gti turbo with same spec as mine about £1300 last time I checked

I had three when I passed for speeding :( when they were a year from expiring I got another 3 for speeding, others expired

Got another 3 for parking last year :wall: but the speeding points expired last month :D

The parking one s make little diff to quotes on some and no diff on most others
