enclosed kits are best
how about save money toget a vtr/vts conversion as it will be more bhp per £

Best way to tune it? Stick a supercharged VTS lump in there.
Oh, what's your budget? ;)

gmc motorsport squeezed 141bhp from a citroen ax gt engine,so cant see why you couldnt get that out your 1! tune a 1.4 and be different i think you could suprise a few people

a system and induction is a start but i wouldnt call that tuning. just leave it at that and then wait till you get something quicker

with high compression, wild cams and twin carbs. nightmare to live with everyday and good luck passing an mot with that set up.
the 1.4 has been turbocharged and supercharged, just depends how far you want to go and how deep your pockets are. personally i'd leave it until i could afford the insurance on either something with a bigger engine or an engine transplant.

you'll be surprised how many folk dont. i have declared everything on my car.sack driving about with uninsured mods, thats just silly.

a guy on another forum said he would sell me an s1 rallye inlet and throttle body with or without an ax gti ecu and loom which he said should push power to the 100bhp mark?
Wolz
7th August 2006, 14:02
What year is your Furio as the S1 Rallye inlet will only the old Black top lumps

7th August 2006, 14:06
Where abouts in South Wales you from mate ? ? ? (off topic i know sorry)
The best increase on a 1.4 would be probably be Cam,filter, full system etc but then its big money for little gains

T reg mate, Llanelli. It does add up to a lot of cash and still prob wudnt be as quick as a vtr!

....1.4's are grp 5, why not sell and buy a VTR which is a 7
saves alot of tuning? x

yeh does make sense but i jus read a thread from a guy with a quiksilver who had 87.5bhp from jus a full system and decat and an enclosed filter which he reckoned with the 1.4 box was better acceleration than a vtr?
max_saxo
8th August 2006, 13:55
dnt think its going to out accelerate my vtr and mine the 98 bhp one. basically just save and wait for a better engine. i have a vtr and not doin that much to the engine so a 1.4 woudlnt be much point mate

The 1.4 is a nice lightweight engine though

Nope will fit early silvertops too with the single plug ecu as the port spacing is the same. It changed when they put the cat in the manifold and the 3 plug ecu.

Hes askin £90 for the inlet and throttle body which he says should push power to around 100bhp, dont no if this is true or not? plus with a full system, decat and filter should push out some decent power for a 1.4 shouldnt it?

I agree but if he put a performance the cam in there and got a re-map he would keep up with a VTR to 60 no problem! the furio is 16v remeber!

dont think you'll see 100bhp to be honest mate! and as Wolz said it will only fit the black top engine, so check before you buy!

Furio's are 8v.

10th August 2006, 23:29
wish it was 16v mate!

If it was 16v it would be up with the VTR i would think.

Go with a 106xsi head, ecu and inlet manifold (can be picked up easy from scrap yards), four branch, and closed induction, should be pushin 110bhp!

11th August 2006, 21:40
What about the 106 1,4 xsi head and 1,3 rallye inlet? It's a very nice sound with the rallye inlet:thumbup:

11th August 2006, 22:10
i have headr the westcoast and furio heads aren't worth tuning.
stick an AX gti engine in if you wanna keep it a 1.4??
kornlover30
12th August 2006, 12:07
or just stick an xsi lump in, got mine running at 123bhp with a bit of money! lol!
jamiep
15th August 2006, 23:26
cheers kornlover the 106xsi head ecu and inlet sounds like a shit hot idea mate, will deffinately be tracking them down in local scrappys!

My westcoast is producing 78bhp @ the wheels (about 95-100bhp fly)
My mods are:
Kent cam PT40 re-grind
Raceland 4-2-1
Open K&N
and some headwork i did myself
i have a S1 inlet to go on yet, just got some problems setting up the idle speed.
jamiep
20th August 2006, 18:01
i thought they produce 75bhp as standard? or is that at the flyweel?
Saxoladlesta
20th August 2006, 18:38
I thought it was 75bhp same as a Furio
jamiep
20th August 2006, 19:52
What have u done then kornlover30 put a 1.4xsi engine in? what mods have u done to produce that power?
HyperLemon
20th August 2006, 20:49
the westcoast and furio both produce 75bhp @ the fly, so about 55-60 @ the wheels
kornlover30
20th August 2006, 21:56
The 106xsi produces 99.7bhp as standard (the earler models which are pre cat) which is due to the size of the valve heads. Now putting a cam, a ported and polished head, a four branch, re-map, lightened and balanced flywheel will significantly up the bhp and thats just for starters!
P.s im running a mainly standard engine in the saxo, used to have an xsi which i spent serious money on!

dnt think its going to out accelerate my vtr and mine the 98 bhp one.
not sure i agree there bud, the 1.4 engine is lighter than the 1.6 and the if he could get his up to 87bhp im willing to bet that up until maybe 70mph he'd give any 98bhp vtr a run for their money.
My mate has a 1.4 leon and i only have a 1.1. His car has 75bhp and mine has 65 but because of the weight differences i could waste him unless we got to over 70mph.
and to answer the original thread, what i would to do is just chuck a backbox and maybe and enclosed filter on leave it at that, no point tuning a 1.4 to much imo, ask andy(certifiable) how much he has spent on his 1.4 lol
jamiep
23rd August 2006, 13:17
so basically save up the money im goin 2 spend on an exhaust, manifold, filter etc and spend it on a vts conversion-job done!

Bit off topic, but i go to college in Llanelli:D
as said above, i say save the time and money and get a VTS lump, or just a VTS :) a 1.4 is never really going to be that fast, even if you tune it.
