Having read a few different threads on this and seemingly having too much info, how hard is the above conversion?? Has anyone here done it or seen one that has been done?
Surely it cant be much more than one out one in but there has to be something which makes it makes it more difficult as 1. there french! and 2. I havent really seen any.

piece of piss mate. it is literally straight out and then straight in! as long as both engines are from the same mark car. as they have different types of ecu. i did mine with my dad. did it in a day! was so easy! any more info then just ask!

Remember, you need to change the clocks and wiring look as well

i didnt change the clocks and wiring at all and mines fine! its helpfull if you can get your hands on the clocks though as you will have the true mileage of the engine and vts clocks are better too especially if you can get a set of digitals.

gti engine has a slightly different wiring loom and will need splicing where it meets the vtr main loom just at the back of the passenger headlight

Every one i've done has needed re-wiring as the VTS and and VTR looms are different and i've done 5-6 now
SPENCER6 - So your saying your VTR to VTS conversion was plug and play i've never heard of that before

wolz what do you mean by re-wiring? are you talking abotu the loom?

Plug In And Play Mate Just As I Say. The Only Thing I Had To Do Was Rig Up A Throttle Cable And That Was It! No Plumbing A Fuel Return And No Re-wiring. Straight Up!

Yeah the loom has a multiplug by the passenger headlamp where the car loom and engine loom meet and the VTR and VTS are slightly different wires ...its not difficult just time consuming matching the wires if you have electrical knowlegde its easy
I did have wiring diagrams , pictures of plugs numbered and colour for easy wiring but lost them when my hard drive packed up will have to sort them again as they are very handy ...but most wires have codes on them and its a case of match them first and work out the remaining ones after

mk 1 vtr to vts conversions are plug an play ive done over 10 for people now its the mk2 that needs slight wirin, these cars were made to have 16valves in them haha

Thats handy to know

so if i can find a mk1 vts engine, loom etc then it literally is a straight swap? Is a day a sensible estimate of time it will take to complete? Do you notice any offer effects other the obvious power change? ie handling, traction?

You can get the engine done in a couple of hours

So i'll need engine, ecu, wiring loom, box. Anything else like ignition? or will the Vtr suffice?

you'll need radiator and water pipes but thats about it!

What do i need as the above post says a radiator and water pipes!!
Are these different on vts' than vtrs?
Thanks

not you again!! lol
i better just take your number and ask you if i need to know anything!

So its more or less straight out of vts and straight into vtr?
Whats this bout splicin wires!?
Ryan
8th February 2007, 19:04
lol i just read alot of what people have done.
obviously the engine is better cooled off the vts rad due to its larger capacity, but its not a deffinate need.
i know someone who ran a 160bhp vts engine on track and he drove hard! and didnt have probs on a vtr rad.

if you have the vts loom from engine block there isnt any splicing off the top of my head, as the engine loom should plug into the cars full loom fine.
as long as both are from same spec
eg, single plug ecu - single plug ecu
although mine is a mixture of a bout 8 car looms lol so has had lots, done.
there probably is minor stuff needed for a normal conversion
