Hi Guys,
Wondering if any of you could help me out here?
I havent yet had chance to have a proper look at the car yet but its been getting worse over the last week or so, i hadnt drove the car in 2 days and when i jumped in it today it was virtually undrivable!
Basically the sysmptoms are as follows:
Slight trouble starting, Takes some time (have had the battery charged and checked and it is OK)
It sounds completley different to what it did last week
It bogs down constantly
Its a LOT slower and doesnt pull well through any of the gears
It doesnt really idle very well, it jumps between say 500 and 1200rpm.
A couple of months back i did rebuild my head, with an uprated cam (kent pt40) small amount of head flowing, new seals and gaskets with a good clean. It ran perfectly. It also has a 4-2-1 manifold, sports cat with an aftermarket backbox which i heat wrapped on the weekend.
I took a video earlier as the cars actually making some strange sounds, wondering if you will be able to point me in the right direction?

Did you have it remaped after the cams? Just a suggestion mate

No, its not had a remap yet (doubt the engine mounts will be upto the job of being thrashed)
It was fine for the first 1000 mile or so, only the last week it was playing up.
Shouldnt be making the funny noises though should it?

It depends im not the expert or anything but i would personally have remaped it after the cam but again I'm not the expert but the noise sounds like an engine bearing ie tensioner or something like that but someone correct me if I'm wrong

I wouldnt expect it to be a tensioner as its a new tensioner lol.
Its not really the noise thats bothering me though, I just thought it might help locate the problem.
Wouldnt have thought a tensioner would affect performance and cause ti to bog down though? Again, I could be wrong though.

Yeah I'm not the expert on it I was just throwing out a suggestion lol it might be worth looking into a remap again just throwing it out there

I wouldn't imagine that it would be a dodgy tensioner or the map
When was the car last serviced? As it sounds like it could be a blocked fuel filter or fuel pump, or old spark plugs, or at a long shot it could be the map sensor or the coilpack

Thanks for your reply.
It has been recently serviced so i wouldnt expect it to be that either, I carried out the following
New oil + Filter
Air filter (K&N) was cleaned
Fuel filter
Gearbox oil
plugs
coilpack has been replaced around a month ago, this sorted out a slight missfire.
all the sensors were taken off and cleaned when the head was off the engine a couple of months ago.
Is there any way of testing the map sensor to find out if its functioning correctly?
Cheers

You can check the voltage that it puts out using a volt meter, I've forgot what voltage it should give out lol, and I might be wrong but I think it should be 5v, and if it's not that then its definately 12v lol
But by the video it sounds like a bit of a weird one, sounds like a misfire but not bad enough to drop a cylinder. I might be wrong, but it could maybe be the ecu I think
Maybe a diagnostic reader may help too

try the coilpack
i bought a coilpack from the scrappys, put it on and started the car and it was the worst sound ever and wouldnt idle nicely! took it a drive round the block and there was no power whatsoever through any gears.
to conclude the coilpack was majorly fecked

Never hurts to double check the timing, literally takes seconds! Allen key in flywheel, see if pulley lines up etc...

Cheers guys, I'll try and have a look at it tonight, see if I can narrow it down at all.
Ive spent so much money on this car within the past 6 months and it's still not running right at all, think it might be time to move on soon if this isn't a cheap fix!
Cheers

Recheck you tappet gaps . the nut could have come undone and then you would loose power

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all your input, I've had a good look over the weekend and i've managed to get it running reasonably well again.
I think the squeaking noise is down to the fan belt (which is new) but it looks like it has a small amount of oil on it. I put a bit of Talc powder on it and its stopped the squeak but i'll be replacing that soon.
I found a slight blow in the exhaust manifold where it joins to the head, Refitted this and stopped that leak, also found a slight leak where it connects to the back box, Fitted that correctly and its made a huge difference.
Cleaned the lamda sensors and also gave the inlet sensors a good going over too, Seems to be back to normal-ish now.
Except for when its warm it does seem to bog down quite a bit still, which im going to put down to the air filter (i never put this on) but as you can see from the video its right next to the TB, so i plan to get a standard air box for it and see if that helps prevent the heat soak.
Cheers for your help guys, Much appreciated.

I should hope not, Its a brand new coilpack lol. Its been on the car for around 1000 miles.
Its my third coilpack since owning the car (just over a year) and i cant really afford to be replacing them constantly.
Would it be easier to get a proper coilpack, As mentioned in one of the other threads, like something off a zetec? (how hard are these to wire in etc?)
Cheers,

I've found a couple of Zetec Coils, Does anyone know if I will be able to use the same HT leads, Or will I need to buy seperate ones?
Hopefully this with a decent air intake might resolve whats left of my problems.
