im thinking about getting a cam for my mk2 vtr, ive found a newman cam on ebay and was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with 1, im just want to know how good it was and also did it give much more power and what other benefits they have???
also would i need anything else to fit 1 apart from a new timing belt kit???

I've not used one of the newman cams before.

But you will need a new headgasket, at which point you might aswell renew the stemseals and the other gaskets. You can get a head set from a motor factors fairly cheap anyway.

Also, new oil, coolant etc...

do you know what camshaft it was? different shafts give different powers in different parts of the rev range

Also you'll need a remap. Unless it's a Ph1 which is pointless.

technically you dont need a remap on the majority of them

Save your self a lot of dough and buy a J cam out of a Rallye.

all the time, heard its a common fault they go down on power due to them missing 8v's :drink:

But they gain it back from not being lardy... Near as not 30kg between the alloy tu and iron 16v.

Thats like 50 horse powers..

Wonder if my carbed xs head would be any use on a iron tu..?

You'll need the xsi/rallye head to run the J cam but if you can source one it works out cheaper than buying a camshaft if you are savvy

this is the one i was looking at- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/citroen-saxo-vtr-peugeot-106-newman-cam-shaft-fast-road-rally-car-/280917227397?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4167f8b785
might look into the j cam instead, anyone know wheres best to look for one and also a xsi/rallye head?

I'm running newman ph3 cam in a 90hp vtr. I had the rallye inlet installed first and them cammed it. Ran really well on standard timming marks, a little lumpy in idle.
Then got the cammed ruffly timmed in with a vernier pulley. This made a big different, got a whole lot more usable power, got a bit more lumpy in idle and very lumpy on cold idle. But still driveable also when cold.
Im still running on standard ECU, but i will have it remapped soon, to get the last horses out of it.

Specs:
1,6 8v 90hp roller rockers
Newman PH3 Cam
Verneir Campulley
1,3 Rally inlet and throtlebody
BMC CDA airfilter
4-2-1 Raceland exhaust manifold
400 cell sports Cat
Magnex cat back exhaust system

Bit of a bump but:

Is you put a PH1 cam in a VTR will it need a remap? Or will it run fine without and see a gain? (Not expecting loads)

Im running PH3 without... It is noticeable and not running perfect, but still very drivable. I am very sure that PH1 will run alot better then this so maby a little lumpy but proberly acceptable.

But with the gains i have got with PH3 i would not consider PH1, i really think you would be desappointed with the gain. It is alot of work for not alot of difference...
