Easy answer high performance coils give a better spark, better spark gives a cleaner stronger faster fuel burn, that turns into power, is it worth it, yes on high performance applications on stock probably not so much.

Bigger spark means need better plugs? some thing like silver electrodes?

its for use on extreme high power, or high power forced induction engines where higher coil energy is required. you can run the stock coilpacks to a level, but soon you get spark problems and have to start running more dwell time on the coil.. and they dont tend to like it too much and give up prematurely.
on a normal car you will see no difference, because the stock coil is capable of supplying the required spark energy. only benifit for a stock motor is reliability over the stock coils.

the MSD coil is based on a standard ford one, there are plenty of high power (much higher than a TU) zetecs that are turbod and they run the standard coils
save yourself a bomb and buy coil and leads form a zetec at at scrap yard

I always use 1.8/2.0 vauxhall ecotec ones,
No hassle with people knocking on the door of 600bhp on c20lets etc.

Would you use the mk1 or mk2 coil as the mk1 has the clip on style leads and the mk2 uses normal leads. i have used both in years of bangers and building banger engines.

msd one is basically ford one painted red and more expensive. i sell both. but yes stock zetec coils been run on british rallycross supercars at 800+hp no problems, they are awesome coils, and cheap.
you can go scrappy and get the bits off a zetec, but if you want to buy NEW parts i sell NEW parts.
depends if you want a scrapyard build or a nice build i guess.

Just because a part is from a car which was crashed it doesn't mean the parts are going to be shit.
Some of the best builds are by people who don't go and pay through the arse for parts they know they can pick up cheap just because of posh advertising. :zainy:

thinking of the £150 for the msd doesnt seem that bad when a genuine pug/cit coilpack is a good £80 at least last time i checked

of course, just wont appear as nice as shiny new ones.
which is why people have the option to go to a scrap yard, or buy shiny new ones. as said, depends what you are after.

Out of at least 100 mondeos i have owned raced and picked up for racing i have never had a coil fail.....well i slipped and hit one with a hammer once but i not counting that
atspeedracing

yeh id say you was the culprit for that one lol
they are bloody good coils, especially for what they cost, weve seen them on cars up to 800bhp no problems.

Makes you wonder why people buy french cars really doesnt it?
I miss my old Zetec, had a couple of issues with the suspension, 150k miles and the engine was sweet as a nut.

i take back my post colin
i was under the impression i could make a car that works for my customers instead of just filling a shell with shiny expensive parts
do you also supply all your BE4 gearboxes brand new from PSA or are they crap scrap yard parts aswell???
and silly me for taking a lead form a car that would of still been on the road if it was not for its accident and then cleaning it with brake cleaner to make it look a little more pleasing
i forgot its only new items that work and once something is dirty it needs to be thrown away
the only reason i have an MSD over a ford one is i got it from ebay for £30

i dont supply BE4 gearboxes at all. customers get their own :y:
if people want to buy nice new bits for their car then thats their choice - its also my choice. cant see why thats a problem?

Because as a customer some people prefer to deal with a business who's sole interest isnt to push new parts to increase their bottom line.
atspeedracing
17th July 2012, 17:37
then thats why they instead choose to deal with a business that does sell second hand goods isnt it.
some prefer used, some prefer new.
breakers yards sell second hand stuff, thats how they make profit
i sell new stuff, thats how i make profit lol.
depends on the business you run, and the customers you are trying to attract.
the real issue is people who try to push new stuff, when it isnt really needed.. refering to my original post.. if i was like that, and havign only interest in bottom line figures id have told the OP, "yeah you need an msd it will give you loads of power". but instead gave an honest answer, and a "new" cheaper alternative.... so not entirely sure what thats based on? or am i getting wrong end of the stick here?
its down to the end user to decide if they want new, or used - think both options are covered here?

why is it on forums like this and similar ones when companies like atspeed, GMC and im sure there are plenty more, come on to help people out and point them in the right direction do people just try and pick posts apart and always try and get one up on them?
Debate is good but petty snipes are just pointless and annoying!
