I have recently stopped driving my vts due to buying an MR2 but i have missed my saxo so much i have decided to track it. I already have a bmc cda induction kit, sportex - piper exhaust system but i have spoken to a couple of tuning companies and asked about mapping if i got it cammed, they said not to as i wouldnt notice any difference, but i want to cam it anyway but am wondering what cams to get and what are the most harsh i could go for without uprating my internals, thanks :) p.s. sorry about the essay!

which companies told you not to map a cammed car??
tbf i only made 4bhp after a remap but its about getting the air fuel ratio set up correctly, having the power curve as smooth as possible, making sure the car starts and idles fine and doesn't cut out, there is also the timing of the cams that make extra power as well
newman ph3's or catcam 743's are the ones to go for
have you got a 4-2-1 or 4-1 manifold?
you can also have some head work done but im guessing as you want standard bottom end you dont want to splash to much cash out?

A lad i worked with has told me that PH3's are the ones to go for, Korten Miller have told me not to as i would end up losing power and i can't remember the name of the other, my mate recommended them. I might uprate the internals at a later date, just starting off mild mods to start with then once it is running right then will start doing the big stuff. 4-2-1 mani :) much better than 4-1 imo.

I can guarantee that they are talking shit saying you will loose power, people pay over £100 per hour for professional mappers to set their cars up perfectly its just so ridiculous that someone would say that I fucked my bottom end up as I went so long before having my car set up properly because it was over fueling so badly my piston rings need changing now which is the worst thing to have to replace, means engine has to come out and be completely stripped down just because the engine wasn't mapped in time

So cam it and map it asap :) What sort of gains will i see?

If you're gna do track days in your VTS mate forget about doing engine mods. A good full exhaust system and the BMC will be fine. Spend your money on making sure its all serviced, brake pads, braided lines, fluid, good suspension kit and make sure its all in good order underneath.
The fun is in the corners, not the straights :)

you can fit a mild cam that does not need mapping but you will not see big gains in power. For the cost its hardly worth bothering.
Personally I like the quality and power from the Cat Cams 1321743 (http://www.kamracing.co.uk/citroen/citroen-saxo/saxo-engine/camshafts/citroen-saxo-vts-fast-road-camshaft-set-cat-cams-1321743.html). It gives good mid range torque and good top end, making the car very versatile. you will not have to change any internals but will require a remap to make decent power.
You will need a remap with a proper set of cams. Anyone who tells you otherwise simply does not know these engines at all.
