After painting the rocker covers black, this heat shield is letting it down. As it looks a state and is rusty in parts.

Is it needed? As I was going to paint with some left over high temp paint.

Its up to you, just sand the rust off and give it a few coats. It should look much better than it does at the moment.

Only asking as people don't have one when using a 421 manifold (sometimes use heat wrap)

Going to sand it back this afternoon treat the bits of rust and then paint it with the left over black high temp paint from the rocker covers we did.

If you have a standard manifold then its worth making the heat sheild look good. If you upgrade to an aftermarket manifold then there is no need for a heat sheild.
