i took my manifold off to heat wrap it the other day, and just replaced the gasket and all was fine. i dont think you need any sealer, not to sure though to be honest

new gaskets, or the flange could be warped/not going up square

You shouldn't need sealant tbh. New gasket will solve the issue unless you have a warped manifold flange/crappy manifold.
Unless you mean the other end, ie. where the cat/de-cat meets the manifold/downpipe.
In which case, new gasket/bolts and a thin film of exhaust paste from the local motor factors will solve that.

I'm pretty sure I read you should never use any on the manifold gasket, buy another one.

well i used a OE Citroen gasket (about 1mm) and leaks quite bad, but the one i took off was quite thicker maybe around (2-3mm at a guess).

i looked at sealant but cant see anything that will with stand the temperatures.

Hmm, I did have two on mine before I removed them, whack another one on there.

A few people have used a couple of gaskets before, just doubled them up. Certainly better than smearing crappy sealant everywhere.

get a metal one off of paragon_pug on ebay, just email him for a vtr or vts one or whatever car you have and he will supply it. top notch and wont require sealant. very cheap also
