thinking of getting a mocal oil cooler and just wondering if a thermostatic sandwich plate is 100% needed? cant you just let your car idle when you start it up for a few mins before you start driving ?:afro:

I'm pretty sure its bad practice to allow your car to warm up by letting it idle?

not all the way literally for about 2 mins, apparently its bad to start cooling the oil through the oil cooler when the oil is still cold, hense the reason for thermostatic plates, but i dont see why you cant just wait 2 mins before driving it ya na wa a meeeeen :)

Youll need a thermostat because as you start driving on the roads the oil doesnt get that hot, so itll keep the oil pumping round cold, the crank, rods and pistons will be kept cool and not at working temperature... Over prolongued use damage is more than likely to occur....
For track use is less of a problem as they get well warmed up soon after switching on... And there pulled apart fairly regular as well so and wear is corrected before continuing on...

Not having a thermostat is bloody ridiculous. Always run a thermostat.
