are there any flaws with remapping?
for example, rims too big can wear out wheel bearings, ride comfort, speedo inaccuracies and inc fuel consumption when accelerating but possibly work out better when maintaining and they look hot.
whats th story behind remapping?

Remapping meerly is the control of the engine being changed for generally more fuel, to cope with the more air and ignition advancement...
Wheel size and wheel bearings are hardware and arent effected by a remap...
What will effect a remap is the wheel and tyre size as the rolling torque and BMEP of the engine....
Hope its helped
Remap = more power and maybe more drivable
Hardware = wheels and wheel bearings, not effected by remapping

what sort of price range is remapping? i've seen some that only do fuel eco and ones for performance but none what do both
sorry, i meant the rims as an example. im keeping the rims and tyres the same size so hopefully, the eventual remap wont be effected
thanks!

TIP; fill in your profile abit more save everyone asking these same questions...
What car you got?
Whats the purpose?
What mods you had done?

if you mean fill some details in th "vehicles you own" box, i'll get on it when i pay th membership, thanks for th heads up.
is remapping the most cost effective way to improve performance? i hear tht air filters and exhaust systems make th car sound better but do very little for performance

What car you got? And yeah tbh on standard map from air filter, exhaust, high lift cam you may find... 4-6hp...
With a remap with those mods on a vts your prob looking at 15-18 maybe 20
Vtr 10-15 bhp gain...
N/a aint cheap not by a long shot but depends what the desired use is, competition use youll find more because the map will be for power at the top and speed only, whereas daily use the map will be tuned down for drivability and idle as well and abit more power...
You may find some fuel gains but normally stay same for daily use and massivly decrease for competition use...
Depends what you want mate...

i have a vtr 2002 but i'm not looking to cam the car or ungrade pullies. thats a similar price to remapping (300 ish) but then the labour involved will make it too costly.
can remaps be tailor made? i would like the power from higher rpms lik 5000+rpm but ofc, cant be changing there every time so less fuel for desperate times, what with petrol getting so dam expensive

Yeah you can get a custom map but that 300quid figures goes out the window, your prob looking at 90-100quid an hour for a custom map and thats if they wanna do it for the 3 plug system...
Without any mods and a remap youll maybe gain... 3-5hp where you want it.... Negligable..
Its up to you mate, if i was in your shoes i would shelf the remap idea until youve either done more mods (breating) k&n pannel filter or suchlike and an exhaust before mapping.. Youll maybe see 8-10hp increase in that...

o right.
found something from here.
http://www.angeltuning.co.uk/engine-remap/citroen-petrol-car-tuning.aspx
would a remap, inc new air filter and exahust system, be worth paying 800? the site specifies a 10 bhp and lb torque gain. if it's one all inc package, i woudlnt mind saving up

As much as i hate saying it... For 800sheets vts convert it 120bhp right there, with the spare money simotta enclosed induction, 4-2-1 mani and exhaust system.... Maybe even cams in there for that price...
Then save agen and map it.... 138-142 bhp...
But in answer no its a rip off lol

o wow! so you'd recommend that induction kit?
with exhaust systems, (inc the 4-2-1 manifold) how do you know what's worth the price? some are going for 400 , some are going for 800. aside from stainless steel for rustproofing, what's makes or breaks an exhuast system?
same goes for cams, i understand that some are high lift so pistons are lifted for longer? not knowledged in this :P

Seems to be a favorite one on here, me personally dont understand it fully because its above the radiator and exhaust which gets hot so id imagi.e the heat soak to be alot but people have good gains on here...
Tbh mate for out and out power competition use, you would get one custom made to your motor and power output.... Supersprint ones seem to be a good option, full supersprint, or kam racing there good :-)
Kam racing ones seem to be one of the only "copies" i use that loosly that have been tweeked and made better...
Kam racing is on here but thats what id be doing, get it breathe first without that all your gonna be doing is choking the donkey...
Breathe first, cams second...
Cams have different lift and durations, allowing the valves (which let air and fuel into the bores) to be lifted higher and for longer/shorter, a variable vernier pulley is advised for optimum performance gains... Newman ph3 can be used with standard pistons (and for 16v engines newman ph3 and catcam 743 or 708) can be used with standard pistons...
Any higher lift cam on standard pistons and youll have valves hitting pistons.... Not a good idea...
Ph3 or 743,708 are perfectly useable for fast road/track use...
After all that then go for the remap...
