Okay so basically my mate has a vtr engine out of his car he isnt using and has said i can have it.

So i went round today to have a look at it and found out it was a single plug engine having done some research on this prior I was a bit put off by this...

But i have spent a little time looking a bit deeper into it and iv dug up some more information i would just like it to be confirmed by some one who knows better than me before i go ahead.

so here goes

ALL 3 PLUG LOOMS WORK TOGETHER 1.1 TO 1.6 AS LONG AS 8 VALVE ? - so i could use the loom out of my 1.1?

1.6 VTR WITH OLD SINGLE PLUG TYPE SENSORS WILL NEED CHANGING TO NEW ONES TO BE COMPATABLE WITH 3 PLUG ? - pretty sure of this

WOULD THE SENSORS OFF OF MY 1.1 3 PLUG ENGINE WORK/FIT IN THE VTR ENGINE? - any one done this before

I WOULD ALSO NEED A UNLOCKED/DECODED 3PLUG VTR ECU ? - definitely need this

All help and any more info on the subject will be greatly appreciated

the best thing to do mate is get and engine with the same loom pin as your car orginally! so like me i went for a single plug loom and engine as my car is a single plug! will save you so much hassle and takes 2 mins to change a loom! the ecu you get will have to be unlocked unless you get the ignition and key with it (i think) if you just get an unlocked ecu take out the imbolisser first as it will lock your new ecu (guide on here)

okay the thing is iv read that a 3 plug loom should work in it if i change the old type sensors to the new type and the ht pack to a grey plug one ,

what i really wanna know is will the sensors off the 1.1 fit the vtr engine

and would my ht(coil)pack work on the 1.6 cant see any reason for it not to

would be great if theres some one on here whos done this before ..

thanks for the help though guys

Not sure if a 1.1 coilpack or sensors are the same or not mate.

Only a few quid for sensors off here anyways :y:

Okay Im not sure I put it clear enough bit confused my self tbh :-S

so ill try to make as clear as possible

Not cussing the splicing but id rather do it by swapping sensors etc

My car is a:

-106 1.1 3 plug version

What i have to go in it is:

-Saxo Vtr single plug engine - it has no loom or alternator ...

-a unlocked 3 plug VTR ecu

-a 3 plug loom - off the 1.1

I need to know:

- What sensors do i have to change on the VTR engine for it to work with the 3 plug loom and ecu

- Will the alternator off the 1.1 fit onto the VTR

- Will the coil pack off the 1.1 fit onto the VTR

anyone know what sensors you need to change on a 1 plug vtr engine for it to work on a 3 plug one ?

29th August 2012, 15:25
bit of reasearch has turned up that you can use a 1.1 coilpack with the engine btw its a silver top 2000 reg so its in the cross over year if this helps with sensors i need to change

Was over a year ago now - things like TPS / blue + green temp sensors / injector relay loom / coilpack connector / alternator connection (i just cut the plug off - and connected a ring terminal on the end and it's worked flawlessly for over a year)

Will all be obvious once you've got the 1 plug engine in - just connect what you can - then will be able see which you need to change.

Well im getting it in a about 3 / 4 hours :fcuk:
so ill know then i went to look at it the other day and the sensors looked pretty similar tbh so hopefully theyll be only a couple to change

And ill be using my original coil pack and alternator off the 1.1 so theyll deffo fit the loom

which pretty much just leaves the temp sensors crank and air sensor i think ?

if you come across any problems i have the loom and the coil pack you need without changing any sensors at all just a plug and play loom makes it alot easier on you and stops all the questions and trials of which sensors to fit

sorry to post again on your thread but it just seems to me like your going the hard way about it

Dont be sorry I appreciate everyones input :y:

Okay well once iv got the engine ill have a look at it, and make a decision on the best way to go ... I would prefer to do it with just the sensors because then its not a mix and match of different year stuff so if i ever wanted a new sensor for example i can go to motor factors and know it will be a mk2 type if you know what i mean.

Also would like to try using the 1.1 sensors because i already have them :P

If it turns out to be more hassle than its worth ill give up and get a conversion loom

andyyy
29th August 2012, 17:47
also another thing is i only have a unlocked 3 plug vtr ECU unless your loom is 3 plug to 1 plug engine to the bigger plug on the car type it will be the wrong one

andyyy
29th August 2012, 18:03
temperature sensors are generic between 1.1 and VTR as is the coil pack and iv already got the alternator covered (in fact the temp sensors are generic from 1.1 to vts/gti)

Cant seem to find much on the injector relay loom also don't know much about them anyone know if one off a 1.1 would work ok ?

the loom i have took me months to source its from a 2000 mk2 w reg it has the single plug ecu and has the larger type plug behind the passenger headlight. Its what i used to put a mk1 vtr engine in my mk2 furio. If u change your mind just pm me i would be happy to help if i can.
Also just curious if u got 1.1 u wont have the dials to match vtr. Have u thought about changing the interior loom to match vtr so u have the rpm and water temp guages. Or would u be interested in some 52mm guages digital rpm and plasma water temp. Pm about anything if needed

havent read all replys but simplest thing to do is fit vtr engine with the single plug ecu/loom and cut off the chassis multiplug connector and solder on your 1,1 connector people such as tom5190 can do this for you if you send him both looms he'll send you back a plug and play loom

Why wouldnt the rev counter work?

As i got one in the 1.1 and surely if i were using a 3plug vtr ecu and my old 1.1 loom they would work

Not bothered about temp gauge as the car doesn't have one anyway only a over temp light

have just come to my senses ... cant believe been so thick not to see how much easier it is to buy a conversion loom (why make life hard on yourself ehh?)

will hopefully get one off carlsmith715 if he hasnt got annoyed that i took so long to make up my mind

carlsmith715

i wouldnt get annoyed its been for sale for months now. When i got the loom everyone wanted one and know nobody wants it. Co insidence or what. Just pm'ed back anyways

could tom sort out a rallye loom spliced into a saxo loom?

carlsmith715
30th August 2012, 10:44
does he need to get a loom spliced or will the crossover loom i have work?
just curios how much does it cost to get the looms spliced by tom?
plus he would have to buy two looms to get spliced as his car is a daily as he mentioned in previous posts.

carlsmith715

gaz coilovers are suppose to be good but just pay a little more for them, as to me is one place of the car that shudnt be cheap as its what makes your handle and keep you on the road
but it does depend on how low you want to go to weather you need coilovers or just a lowering kit
