View Full Version : Temporary EML.

So driving the last few days, occasionally the EML stays on for about 5 seconds, then goes out. When it first kicks in, there's a momentary hesitation on acceleration. Then it's fine till the light goes out.

I've had codes read, the only error thrown up is for the coolant temp sensor as it constantly says -30oC. Could that be anything to do with it?

Cheers!

In a word yes, thats why the eml comes up.

Thanks, I'll get a replacement CTS.

So how exactly does this cause the momentary hesitation?

ECU fuelling and spark timing are based on engine loads - engine speed and intake pressure/throttle position. Coolant temperature sensor as well as other sensors such as knock, acts as a trim for the fuel and ignition timing to be refined based on engine operating conditions.

The reason your car keeps bogging under rapid acceleration is because the ECU will detect a sudden increase in manifold pressure via throttle position and the MAP sensor, however your CTS is telling the ECU the engine is cold even though it isn't. Therefore the ECU map/lookup table will be written for the ecu to advance/retard the igniton by X amount giving you the bog/hesitation based on that engine speed and load.

Wow, there's a lesson learnt. Thanks mate.

So I'll get to replacing that. Euro car parts wanted nearly £25 does that sound right?

Or this from eBay, but not sure if it's genuine:

There is a citroen dealer/parts office near my work would it be worth buying directly from them?

Cheers

eurocarparts seem high you can bag one for around £15 from allparts

as for the ebay one that's for a C3 wrong type!

The sensor on a VTR should look like one of these

blue connection not green, also try GSFparts based in Birmingham there good, cheap and quick on delivery, go to there actual website though there ebay shop is painfully annoying

Okay, I got a replacement CTS from GSF Parts.

Swapped it over, took it for a drive.

After about 15mins it felt a bit better, packed up a little quicker and certainly pulled better lower revs, also felt a lot
smoother.

Drove home from work yesterday, and the EML came back on! Got someone coming down with a code reader Tuesday to re read them.

Also the light above the temp gauge still comes on 15secs after starting the car.
