View Full Version : Intermittent power loss VTS

hi i have Intermittent power loss on my VTS iv have code read it and the is no codes it can be fine then it just splutters and loses power so i pull over and the wait for a few mins then its all fine

I replaced the coil pack but it made no difference

Had a full service 3 weaks ago

Any one got any more ideas thanks Dan

next time it does it --does the rev counter drop to zero even when car is still ingear --if so its a power supply problem probably on the main feeds to ignition switch

No mate the revs drop but only to like 1500 then it dont want to pick up and splutters and boggs right down

Thanks mate might ill try a map sensor

Iv all ready changed the

Coil pack

Had a full service a few weaks ago with all the filters done

Put a lamda sensor in for mot last month

cheap method is cotted wall pud bit of WD40 on it and clean the map sensor out mine came out black covered with oil

When you say you had the code read, was it just a basic code reader?

As that would only show up if EML is on.

I have a Lexia which shows up prending code and temp faults, so a lot more detail

No mate i read it with a snap on code reader

Got a map sensor coming so going to try that

fitted a map sensor yesterday and it still the same was driving in 4th about 2500rpm car bogged loss power went to about 1800 rpm put my foot down a bit nothing happened then after 5 seconds power came back and car shot forward

Any one got any more ideas thanks

i read someone on here changed the green temp sensor and that sorted it after changing almost every other sensor?

Ill try that mate

when did you last change the fuel filter?

A few weaks ago when i done a full service


Took the crank shaft sensor out and cleaned it but made no differince

Thanks mate will order a new green temp sensor and have a look at the intake temp sensor will be back later to let you know

Fitted a new green temp sensor and another fuel filter this afternoon but car died on the way home from work lost all power had to pull over and let it idle for a few minutes then it was fine

the car idle fine not lumpy or any thing

no mate is had a new lamda last month for mot was fine on emmisions

it might be worth plugging into a machine and reading some actual values and comparing them to what they should be.
might also be worth checking the quantity comparison for the fuel injectors.
use something like the bosch kts

took it for a drive last night scanned it agine this morning and it came up with code

291 adaptation mixture control

Can any one shred any light on what this means thanks

google search showed 4+ replys pointing it towards a injector :

P1291 Injector High side short to GND or VBATT - Bank 1

So check injector wiring / check for leaks / send them off to be cleaned :y:

Yeah mate just goggled it as well will have to have a look at the injectors thanks

unbolt the injector rail, pull the injectors out (all attatched still), lay some cardboard underneath it,
get someone to crank the engine over for you and see if any of the injectors have a dodgy spray pattern :)

Hi i sent my injectors of to be recondition got them back yesterday and fitted them but the car is still the same and came up with 291 Adaptation mixture control agine

Any one got any more ideas im thinking

disconect the lamda sensor and see what it is like but it is only a month old ?

Fuel pressure regulator ?

And a compression test ?

Any ideas will help

Yes mate all fixed was a faulty lamda sensor my new one only lasted a month lol
