Just took out my 708's, bought a set of vts cams that were standard (unlabeled so have had to get the inl/exh right!
I've locked the bottom end at TDC, then removed the cams, I've left the head on the engine, and spark plugs are still in, but it seems the hydraulic valve shims won't move... So the camshaft won't rotate over it when I try to set it to time the engine , ill get camshaft so far, then it just seizes solid!
Any clues why this would be happening? Kinda stumped...

try swapping the cams over, I believe one of them will not turn if placed incorrectly.

I've tried both, the one that I've put on exhaust side slots in fine, as the indents on the camshaft (I.e there's circular bits that aren't lobes on the camshaft just before the 2nd or 3rd lobe, then on the head there's a metal bit sticks out where these circular bits on the camshaft are, should they be missing that metal bit that sticks out or sitting in it? I thought if it was touching it, it would be wrong?
Hope that make sense... Does to me lol

errr, just a thought, but TU5 locks with the pistons at TDC, therefore you may have a few pairs of bent valves if you have been trying to force the cam around!
why they didn't do it like an XU and lock them halfway is beyond me.

could it not be the bit of inlet manifold in the cylinder? u sold the cams like or they up for sale?

I agree on one level, but at factory head is assembled with cams locked and dropped onto the block which is also locked so there is noturning of cams when assemblying .
but common sense would tell you to move pistons off tdc --fit cams with lockpins and then move pistons back up to tdc and fit lock pin .
If you have cams in wrong place there is noway you can turn them to correct place if pistons are at TDC ,
there will always be some clash if you are trying to rotate the cams a long way
MOVE PISTONS OFF TDC --THEN TRY TO TURN CAMS --IF THEY WON,T THEN YOU HAVE A PROBLEM --

Thanks john, ill do that tonight, gogs - nope, when I was cranking engine it was fine, turns freely and has no noises
And no, I've not forced the cams round with excessive force, so there won't be any bent valves, timing belt is off, I'm doing it by turning the camshaft manually

Hit wrong button, was ment to quote, after looking deeper at what's been done with the engine I'm gona keep it as it's a good base for me to start over a period of time building it up due to the ammount of work it's had done to the head etc, hence removal of cams
