i have had a few turbo cars but they have had lo compression pistons in, but on standard internals on a non orrignaly turbo'd car i would say 5-6psi max

run as much as you want just done expect them to last, its not boost that kills them its the heat as standard pistons cant cope, so you might get 2 years or you might get 2 weeks out of them

run as much as you want, thats stupid as your not going to run 21psi on standard internals now are you as you'd just blow a hole through the piston within a few miles, not only that your not going to run high boost on standard con-rods as they wont be strong enough. Most turbo converion kits that are designed to run on standard internals run at 5-6psi this is considered a safe pressure and engine reliability is pretty much maintained with maybe a switchable boost controler set to 7-8psi for occasional use. personally i would stay at 5 psi due to the fact that i wouldnt wana over stress the engine

having owned a saxo turbo for over 3 years and one of the first to have one im sure im confident in what im saying, although the answer was generic and not a "just run 21psi" answer
psi is a pressure rating, the amount of air compressed matched with fuel will give a larger bang, its the heat created that will cause the damage (no matter if you run 5/6psi it will still created head as compressing air does that) and eventually break the piston as they are not designed to work with boosted temperatures, although if you can keep the inlet temp down this helps (I ran my car on standard pistons @ 1bar for over a year and never had a piston failure) I would put this more down to luck than good setup as i know others who have ran less boost and melted pistons quicker than me.
The rods are fine for over 1bar, but if going for mega power then yes you should upgrade the rods and bolts.
my answer "run as much as you want just done expect them to last" is exactly right, because if you did run 21psi you wouldnt expect them to last would you??

call up any turbo tuning company such as van aken who supply turbo conversion kits for non orriginally turbo'd cars with completely standard internals and they will say the prssure should be 5-6psi 8max, your statment "run as much as you want just done expect them to last" is right but i think the user who asked about pressure wanted to know a pressure that is the max safe to run.

well thats not what they said so my statement is right, if you want to interprut/speculate what they said then thats your call but for the question asked the answer applys.
and if ANY tuning company give a generic answer as 5-6psi 8max then they shouldnt be in business as each engine is different and its all down to compression ratios, inlet temps, head breathing and exhaust breathing to define what the max safe boost is.

run as much as you can til it goes bang.
then you will have to uprate pistons, rods, bolts etc
thats part of the fun of have a boosted car :)
