I have a 2000 X reg vtr with 53k on the clock, and I was driving down the motorway this morning and a rubbing sort of noise started to happen. But whats strange is that it only started to make a noise when i took my foot of the accelerator and then when i put my foot back doen the noise went, so I am very confused!!
I was thinking maybe cambelt or alternator belt, can anyone give me some much needed help please!!

Thanks,

probs cv joint on driveshaft, when load is on e.g. you put your foot down it tightends up, when you decelerate no load so makes the noise, check your cv boots on the driveshafts to see if they are split.

Will I have to replace the whole shaft or just the CV joint??

if its just the cv split you should be able to repack it and just replace the cv joint, £20 supplied and fitted at a garage ie YOU remove the shaft, if they have to expect that to go to £40 per side.

but if the cv joint is damaged you can either just replace that or get a new shaft or scrap yard one.
