i have a sportex backbox on my phase 1 vtr, the rest of the exhaust is as standard. i have been thinking about doing a decat. everyone seems to tell me it will be stupidly loud then though, but i cant see how as the sportex back box isnt much louder than standard, so how loud would it roughly be with decat, anyone tried it? any performance gains? and would i loose too much back pressure? also how much mpg would i loose? sorry about all the questions, i dont want to buy a decat pipe, fit it, then regret it after all the effort lol

yeah everyone keeps telling me it will be silly loud, but surley the cat cant silence it that much? if it does then it must create a lot of back pressure, so removing it maybe it would loose too much back pressure then just be completely crap

well, i dont wanna get pulled over 24/7 for bein too loud, and bearing in mind i have a 1.1 box on my vtr, so cruising at 60 would be like torture if it was loud

Decat won't make it overly loud in my opinion. It will make it more raspy, but it won't make a massive difference unless you remove the standard silencers too..then it will be loud.

Performance wise you probably won't notice anything at all.
MPG wise you'll use a little more...mainly due to the fact your foot will be down a lo more to make more noise to hear it, but not a noticeable amount

TBH, i'd be more interested at looking into straight pipes with a silencer if i was you..like the supersprint/kamracing one.

problem is im tight with money lol, it never had a centre silencer, just cat then backbox, sportex one makes not much difference than standard, so a decat would make it more noticable without being too loud? also would i get a few pops & bangs :P

Sportex backbox is much louder then a standard back box, infact noisy

Decat doesn't make it to much louder I don't think, sounds nicer, bit of a gain because its more flowing.

That's my vtr with custom cat back and supersprint mani, no silencers. Sounds mint in my opinion.

Mpg won't be much worse tbh, it sounds nicer so you might have your foot down more but drive normally and there's very little different IMO.
