can anyone give me a rough idea of how quickly a single plug vtr on a 1.1 box with a backbox and cone filter mounted in front of rad (not that they would really make a difference) would go form 0-60? its done 113k, i know it depends on the driver and stuff, just a rough figure please :)

Depends if you make 60 in second.

no, it does something around 55 in 2nd (1.1 gearbox)

standard is 10 seconds yea? so about 9.5/9? pushing between 8 and 9 on a mk2

probably 9 or 10. the gear change to third will add a second.

on paper it says
mk1 VTR - 9.9 secs
mk2 VTR 9.1 secs
So yeah, around 9 secs. :y:

quite a while. Forgot how slow VTRs are going off those times^

they produce peak power (relatively speaking) fairly low in the rpm and peak torque at like 3000 so they feel grunty to drive, hence why people say they are quick! outright, they are only a nudge on most other normal cars about.
i would be interested to know if the 1.1 box made a worthwhile gain on a VTR.

It would depend how you define gain I guess. Acceleration? Better off with a s1 1.4 box aren't you? (memory is shite today - forgive me if I'm wrong there!) It's not gonna give you 10bhp like a max power sticker would though.

There's a time and place and a place isn't there. In the middle of town is NOT the right place.
Plus treating your car like crap and telling people on a "car forum" was a bad move too lol

Lol! My vtr is my first car and I don't rag it from cold haha.
Doesn't matter if its your first car or your 20th, it's common sense to let it warm up, I would rather wait 15-20 minutes for the engine to be nice and warm before I boot it than jump strait into it doing 5k revs everywhere lol

yer not in the town though mate.I also let the engine get warm first before going past 3k.
This is why your engine is ruined, explains all the other threads you made.
Mechanical sympathy. You dont have it.

as much as this will hurt the feelings of vtr owners, a LOT of cars shit on vtr's :p They're pretty slow frankly. Of course, they're the fastest thing ever (y0) when you're 18 :D

got that right, i used to really struggle to keep up with my bosses basic 318 on the back roads home from work everyday, got left behind once or twice, this was when my engine was fully functioning mind.
Feel sorry for the poor person who buys that car after you....
Thats why a new engine is going in once christmas is out the way, and the dreaded car tax on new years :(
..which will be more cared for, was going to do a vts conversion but cant see myself having the money to do that

he was, he grew up on them roads aswell, most of the time he didnt get very far infront, i could just about stick with him, we never managed to get over about 80 on them roads though, as i dare say on an open road the vtr wouldnt have had much chance lol

It all depends on what tyres suspension and wheels your using and when your changing gear (changing it to soon or to late makes a massive diffrence ive killed cars just because thay redline theres and i change just before peak power drops off) power comes into it last.
But really you have got 0 mods and you have just fitted a shorter ratio gear box and to be frank the vts gearbox is wrong even for the vts! second gear is to tall for it but it was designed to give the best 0-60 time nothing more and what you have done is lowered your top speed and made your 0-60 worse than before so there for if you have stock everything id say more like 10 seconds to 60mph....
Also you cant go off your speedo as theres not one car that has a correct speedo infact every speedo is wrong after 70mph and most are off by atlest 5mph between 30mph to 60mph already....
jamie281093
30th November 2012, 22:57
tbh, i like the feel of the 1.1 box, with the short ratios, but i cant imagine it would do my 0-60 time any good as changing to 3rd is required. and as for cruising at 70mph or so it is so fucking annoying!! :wall:
which gearbox would be best in your opinion, as when i get a better vtr lump early next year i might try source a gearbox if i can afford to aswell, maybe a normal, vtr box?

VTR boxes for the bin or boost. They're so boring with standard N/A power..
1.1 / vts box / 1.4 xsi for B-road fun.
XSI boxes don't pop up very often and when they do they are priced quite high. That's why 1.1 boxes / VTS boxes are mostly used.

gotta love an xsi box but on a vtr they are just too short if your doing any sort of dual carrigeway/motorway with the 6k limiter
s2 rallye is where its at for 8vs imo

what is the vts box like? between the 1.1 & vts is it? i seen a post on here ages ago where someone put up all of the ratios of different boxes, cant find it anymore though, anyone else seen it/know where it is, or a link to the differences? :)

Just make sure you dont fit an s1 rallye, on a road going VTR it'd be a nightmare but good fun for sprints or similar
