Hi Guys & Girls, I thinking of changing my Induction kit at the mo I've got a Green RamAir Enclosed Cone in a Plastic Scoop. The scoop bolts flush onto the slam panel but there is only a small hole for the air to enter the scoop rather than cut my slam panel up I might just change the whole unit.
What induction kits do you lot use?
Has anyone fitted a BMC Filter?

Yes I have a bmc and so do many other people. It is a popular induction kit as it is very good although is expensive. I used to have one of those induction kits when I brought the car and I think they are pony. You can use the original cold air feed like many people do.

So where did you run your Cold Air Feed to?
Ive seen Phase 1s with Cold Air Feed Rings in there Grills, But I've got a Phase 2, I don't even think I can get to the mouth in my front bumper cos of the rad.
Wat else you running on ur VTS?
Apart from the Green Ram Air Scoopy thin Im only running a Janspeed Manifold, Sports Cat and Janspeed Cat back Exhaust, so its only really bolt on stuff.
I'm having a few body bits done over the next few months but after I'm goin back to the engine but not sure £ 4 £ where to go after the 'Air' in 'Air' out bolt on goodies.

I've got some tubing going to the original citroen cold feed area but my own stuff. At the mo running exhaust and bmc but when I get bk off holiday in a few weeks will be raceland manifold and centre section for the time being. Not too sure on a phase 2 as I have a 1. Ask starkie as I knkow he has a mk2 with a bmc.

Rite ok here we go . . .
Airfilters like all other things in the world of modding is all a case of £££ to a point you do really get wat you pay for but there is alot of cases where products are greatly OVER-PRICED.
AirFilters can easly be split into 2 groups
Open or Enclosed
A open cone filter like K&N 57i, Green, Pipercross and so on simpley replace all that horrible black plastic tubing and boxes that make up the original airbox system and replace it with a nice looking cone.
These will make a fantasic roar under heavy rite foot action and you will fine yourself lookin for every tunnel and multistory carpark to hear the noise from under the bonnet, but these units suffer from 'heat soak' where they pick up hot air from the engine.
Thats where the enclosed filters (which are becoming more popular). These units are an Enclosed filter cone or otherwise which is sheilded from the heat of the engine and draws cold air from a feed not unlike the cars original airbox, only downside is Because they are enclosed alot of the Induction roar is lost not totally but nothin like a open filter.
If it was me I'd invest in a open cone just for the noise factor (making sure you get yourself a cold air feed and get plenty of cold air to it) then if later down the line you fancy a change (like most of us do) save you pennies and get an Enclosed filter.
If you do go for a open cone in my experiance a Cotton Filter like K&N or Green will make more noise than a Foam (pipercross) or Metal (Blitz style).
Take alook around and see where you budget takes you, don't forget eBay as there are some interesting Induction kits that you cant get in the shops.
Hope that helps

Forgot to mention, Im runnin a Green Ram airfilter which is a cone in a scoop so its enclosed and bolts onto the slam panel, great idea in theory but im abit dissapointed in it, cos where it sits there isnt a great openin for cold air to enter and the cone is pretty small.
Droopster said he had one to and said "There Pony" :D:
I'm thinkin of either going over to a BMC or even goin back to a open cone just for the noise

i have a bmc on my vts. if you look through grills on the front bumper to the right hand side there is a 2 1/2" roundish hole. you can also see it by looking down the right hand side of the radiator. i have my cold air feed there. never had any problems.

I have a raceland enclosed cone style filter and yes if you bolt it on it cant get that much air so i have mine sat about an inch back cable tied on so it gets more air, i may get a bmc eventually, but just ordered me coilovers and wheels so think im pretty much spent out for bit specially as my MOT and tax due this month and next month :-(
BTW My raceland raws as soon as the right foot goes down and the revs hit arround the 4000 mark, ive tried to suck a few small children and dogs in with it

BMC all the way!
im thinking of buying an open cone & mounting it as fasr forward as posssible tho! then no heat soak & plenty of cold air! why!? for the look & sound with minimal losses

nonsense. open filters suck in hot air and still suffer from heatsoak no matter where in the bay you put them. fact.

I agree my old PiperX was terrible and it had no roar to boot

Surly, if you mount the open filter in front of the battery for example or near the bottom of the rad & wrap all the piping so it doesnt suffer to much from heat soak... theres really not that much in it between that & an enclosed filter that sits right next to the block!?

naaa it'll just mix with the hot air in the engine bay and still be shite.
I've just opted for a panel filter. none of that shitty roaring bollocks and improved air flow (which is surely what everyone is aiming for?)

wot will mix with the hot air? the pipe? but then wiv the enclosed filter it is there too, right next to the engine, & a lil thin piece of plastic wont do mush to stop the heat will it?
I have a BMC filter but just dont like the way it sits right next to the engine, this is why i may try mounting an open filter further away. trial & error

please dont make me go into geek mode.
The hot air will mix with the cold air. The location will improve the performace over the standard location dont get me wrong but it'll still be shite. Open induction kits are radial meaning they suck in from ALL directions, also hot air is less dense so its easier to pass through the filter.
The enclosed filter will suck in the cold stuff. The heat transfer between the block and the casing will happen but not too a great extent as there is a fair bit of turbulence under the hood as you have cooler air coming in which makes heat transfer difficult.

I've got a ram filter I fitted mine so it sat just abit higher than the slam pannel and turned it the other way, then removed the rubber seal above the headlight... works realy well when I take the headlight off on the track too... the noise is cool as it only starts to roar under high revs as the exhaust starts to die down abit lol

geek mode LOL!
i understnad wot your sayin, point taken! there will be no sucking in of hot air as the filter will be away from any heat of the engine & the pipe further away than it is now... it will just have the cold fresh air to suck in thats hitting it from the front ,the distance away from the engine will be double of the enclosed filter now. Also a heat sheild or the engine side of the filter.
opening up a head light is ideal, im temped to take a fog light out! thatll look cool, ill have a missing fog lamp with a filter in replacment & on the left of that an oil cooler. thatll look great IMO. LOL

Wouldn't mind seeing of picture of that if and when you do it.
Might be tempted myself !!
