This has probably been asked before, but dont want to waste time searching around... I have a 2002 saxo vts want to do have a turbocharger fitted or supercharger... Want some opinions on what would be best for all around use of the car still as it will be used daily... I am wanting to spend around £6000 maybe £7000 all depend if everything goes as I plan for it too... Would want to get a decent amount of bhp so if anyone can give me some advice on all this and tell me what I would require to get would be great. If anyone lives near West Sussex area and knows of some places which I can approach and ask would be great also, thanks

most ppl arent willing to help without doing at least a little background matey
its been covered a million times and alot of what youve asked can be answered with a quick browse..once youve got an idea of what your after
theres plenty knowledgeable ppl on here to help you spec a very nice car up
but since im here... supercharger will be a smoother dailly...turbo will be more of a balls out toy
but theres too many pros and cons.. ideally a boosted car isnt a great dailly drive..

What a bold statement! You spend 7k to turbo a Saxo you'll need to spend over 10k on a Clio to make it as fast..
300hp+ saxos are very fast when in the right hands of course

Lol. That is all.
Give me a saxo, and £7k to spend on it, and I'll give you back a saxo that eats 200bhp clios for fucking breakfast.
If you buy a unmodified £7k car outright (Evo, scooby, etc) you'll struggle to find something that will bum a 300hp saxo where it matters (ie on the road).

7 grand builds an impressive saxo, IF you build it yourself. if you get a garage to build it maybe not so much.
though im am inclined to agree with w343nna in some regards. I think 7k on a saxo is abit a tough when it will always be worthless really. 7K buys you a rebuilt RX7! a car to those who havent driven one, maybe a bold statement, but those who have im sure will understand. They are seriously awesome road cars!

For 7k, if the majority of the work is done yourself and all the parts/mapping etc is good, then 7k on a saxo will get you a long way and will beat near enough anything else you can get for 7k, but you have to realise that you probably won't re-coup most of your money back like you will on a 7k car when you come to sell it
Then if you also think on another side of it, you won't get all the in-car luxuries and comforts that you will get in a 7k car if your fussed about that side of things, and theyres always a chance it will go wrong when building a high spec car like bad mapping, bad engine re-building etc

Love my saxo too much to sell.. Not looking at making money back... Wanting to spend this much as its the car I want to keep. Looked at other cars but just don't have the same feeling as I do with this... More plans will be coming on it through 2013

No ecu (& mapping) so allow a £500-1000 for that mind you :) But yep, that's a great kit for a good price :) Can you can save over that price if you want too, using an ebay intercooler (GT3 one etc).
Although John's been very conservative there with 7psi on standard internals and implying more boost requires forged, you can run a good chunk of boost (a bar or so) on standard internals with two head gaskets to lower compression. I bet you'd see 220bhp+ on that kit with standard internals with conservative mapping to keep it safe. :)

in my opinion the first thing you want to be doing is building youself a top spec forged block then in the future your possibilities are endless.
do it correctly 1st time round then bring on the boost.lol
good luck fella

you can get 200bhp NA but it wont be cheap. Look through the forums for a user called "jpsaxo" as a good example.
For the money you want to spend, you'll get there though.
However (and of course there's always a but ;)) spend the same money on a boosted setup, and you'll be going a lot faster. But it's all about how you want the power delivery. They are VERY different animals :)
For rods and pistons, you need to decide at the start what you want - rods are "generic" (ie boosted rods are the same as high comp rods) but pistons are very different.

as said above by ross n/a-boost are very different things to use. I did think about going boost before i built what i did but mine was goingto be used daily and mainly as a fast road toy. i must say though i have had owned fast cars in the past and my 170bhp 106 is by far the best fun ive had in a car. i would certainly recommend having a passenger ride in one to see how much fun they are.

also you say your wanting to spend 7k and you want 200bhp i think is abit pointless. what are you going to be using the car for ie any track action etc, and why is it you must have 200bhp

jones91
22nd December 2012, 21:30
For the power you want with your budget, I personally think its best to go down the turbo route, and for the money probably use something like a dp engineering mani, gt25 turbo along with larger injectors, 2.25" pipes, forged bottom end etc and that will see you about 270 bhp, then you'll have a bit spare for the suspension and brakes etc to handle the thing :)
Karlb1
23rd December 2012, 10:40
Try and remember this too..if you're upping the power you'll ideally want to upgrade to decent suspension, brakes etc. (not just lowering it so it will look the tits).
Yo have to take that into your bdget too, plus when you have boost there's no doubt that you will want to up it more and more over time, so you need extra mapping sessions, parts etc etc.

If you can't bare to sell the saxo.. Then don't but giving someone 7k to tune it is a fully retarded plan.

1. RX7 costs a fortune when it goes wrong
2. there is a massive second hand parts market for saxo's
3. parts are cheaper for saxo's no matter how you look at it
4. Saxo parts are interchangeable with 106/rallye's/many TU variants/AX/etc/etc
5. Massive market for parts means you can sell your saxo parts:
i. quickly
ii. for a good price
iii. for what you paid or more if you got a second hand bargain

So having spent that money on a car would you suggest the op buys a faster car or tunes his own?
If you can't do the work yourself around half your money will go on labour so the op will probably end up with a quick car rather than a mind bendingly fast car.

that's down to the op and his budget. Mine makes about 420bhp/ton with more to come. Its terrifyingly quick, not much out there for that price and I get resale on all my parts if you care to work out the prices.
