I've been wanting to go De-cat for ages for 2 reasons power gain and the sound. I was wondering is there any way to modify the standard cat in the manifold on a mk2 vtr to make it de-cat as in like smash out its insides? Or would this be pointless and have no power gain just make it sound different.
Before I get replys about mot time I have another mk2 manifold with cat in garage so doing this would really save me money! :-)
Any help be much appreciated thanks.

i smashed my cat out the only difference it made to mine (full straight through) was make it louder and pop flames and drink fuel like a bitch but the flames would only work letting it rev down and tapping the accelerator at 5k causing it to do a single pop followed by a small flame (pointless) but after i did that i got 180 miles to a tank not going over 3k revs

What i did is went to the breakers and bought a MK1 Manifold amd downpipe, then went on eBay and bought a Lambda Boss and Blanking plug (M18 x 1.5) and relocated the lambda sensor pointing towards the radiator as the lambda wont screw into the dowbpipe as the oil filter is in thw way (this saves u relocating the oil filter) then i found the oil pressure swotch rested on the downpipe (just before it dissapears under the car) so bashed a dent into the downpipe with a hammer and it no longer rests, finally the second lamda has no where to go so grabbed a length of pvc pipe and slid that over the second lambda tp protect it and cable tied it to the battery tray, this way the ecu reads clean air from the second lambda tricking the ecu to thinkinf the cat is present and working :y:
You could smash the internals of the cat out but the mk1 downpipe will have alot more direct flow :)
Buying a manifold e.g 4-2-1 would be the best option but all in all the decat cost me 16.50 so coulsnt complain :)
Worth it for the sound alone!

^^ good suggestion.
Personally I'd just buy a second hand 4-2-1 off here for £60-80. :y:

Ahhh that sorta make sense but I'm only mechanical minded when it comes to bolt on kits haha (more of an electronic kinda guy) so I think il just wait to buy a 4.2.1 or something thanks for the help anyway :-)
