i wouldnt 'just get a new head' unless the current one was damaged, like cracked or something. in the past i have done gaskets without skimming the head, sometimes is fine, be worth getting it skimmed though if the head is ok

After thinking about it I will probs just get it skimmed, having a new head wud be better but as you see if its not damaged then no need to, cheers buddy

did you not check when you bought the engine?
I would have thought the oil cap would have been all milky.
Take the rocker cover off and if its obviously been wiped out and the evidence 'hidden' go back and nut the seller for being an arsehole.
As long as its not been overheated lots i doubt the head will have warped to badly, but a head skim at most places isnt that expensive.

If its been looked after than a new head is just extra cost and not needed. However if its corroded badly then a skim or reface isnt always going to help. Head skim is about £25, pressure testing a little more

dan,
i told you what you needed. The head is pissing water out, so you will need to take it off and have a look to see if its cracked or whatnot.
It is worth getting it skimmed whilst its off and you need a new headgasket,
just a skim wont fix it. Why have you been told to just get a new head?
