Has anyone used Michelin S9C slick tyres on a Saxo. How well do they work as ive heard they can take a long time to get heat into them... Especially in the rear!

No one used these tyres before?

you need proper suspension setup for tyres like these, they dont work on stock stuff.

Really, why is that?

They grip too much as per say. You need very hard suspension to cope with it.

So what will happen if i use standard suspension with slicks?

I dont understand why you would do this?

you go upside down

Tyres with tread are designed so movement of the tread blocks help generate heat. Slicks require high loads to be transmitted through them.

With regards to rear temperatures you need to get the tyre width and compound right otherwise they will not work. The other way is also to set up the suspension geometry to give more toe to scrub heat into the tyre...

They are 190/57/15... What suspensions will work best with these tyres then?

Your going to fit full new suspension just to run slicks? Have you heard of semi slick tyres?

azzamut

yeah, i've heard of semi slicks... Car is just to be used on track and hill climbs though!

Please tell me you're not using these on the road?

Suspension thats at least twice as expensive as a good condition VTS is to buy. To run slicks well you need to run proper race suspension that is designed for the conditions, high side loads etc.
I'd imagine a road derived setup would be at risk of bending the struts on some brands!

......... stiff dont mean expensive...

iff you mod your stock suspencion it will work fine.

i think coilovers are a real waste of money in most cases..

can you expand on your thinking behind this?

I think he means you can use a traditional McPherson strut setup, but to be honest without serious modification I dont see how you can run decent spring rates and get the car very low. I guess you could weld the spring platform lower but that will bring issues with steering mounting points....

hi..

yes is true ...you do nead to modify the struts, and will not use decent spring rates, but whith the use off a verry stiff insert and re-weld the spring plates .

i ll asure you gone get a very good setup to use whith the s9b by a fration off the cost off a decente coilovers to run this same tyres...and will lower the car more thAN THE COILS.

ive said it before : send your full stock struts to a suspention tuner and ask for circuit use...

be prepared to rebuild it evry year....but is low-cost.

not the one i use, but he has made alot off saxo track ones.

I guess Solvi means, you should get your suspension revalved to a stiffer set up ( for cicuit use ) and harder springs, not just height adjusted coilover with soft springs for the same price!

350 euro to revalve bilstein group Ns and 250 for aluminum height abdjuster with 350lb springs on original top mount . Prices are what i paid nearly 1,5 years ago!

350 euros is low cost in terms off a decent circuit suspention...

and a rebuild will be alot less...

S9C are £200 for a used set, but with life left in them.
What rate springs do you run at the front?
And what size torsion bars?

solvi
