Bit like pissing into the wind mate, where's it coming from? What driving conditions? What load on the gearbox? What load on the engine? Little bit more specific?

If it gets louder when you turn corners, could be a wheel bearing? When mine went it also sounded like a loud tyre on tarmac/soft grinding kind of sound... thats the best i can describe it lol.

Well i wouldnt say that mate. Its brakes, its important! I'm not saying it is that but it could be and i wouldnt want to go on a long drive (as per your thread) and you pottering along at 70mph and something in the rear drum loosens. :panic:

Have you looked under the car? Sounds like the handbrake cable is rubbing against the wheel and then knocking into the underside of the car.
