ive got an 02 vtr with th 98bhp silver top. Can I swap the head with the earlier silver top engine to give 0 0 0 0 port spacing on the inlet?
I want to be able to run bodies and there is more kits for that head.

Also, what injection set up you recomend for http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/frame-manranges.asp?code=9

this cam?

cheers

They are interchangable, As in they do fit.
I cant help you with what else needs to be swapped over though, I havent done it myself.
Regarding injection, You've pointed towards camshafts... Is this what you're after?

If so, It depends on what sort of power delivery you're looking for, With bodies you will be able to go higher lift. I've always found the Motorsportworld website to be a little vague when it comes to looking at things like this, Although I have found them cheaper than other places.

What are your end goals with the engine?

sweet, ive got a complete early silver top head its just knowing that it will run spot on with out any other changes.

yeah im thinking of that cam as it is higher lift than the one im using so will be better with bodies.

Im wanting to get it running on bodies, cammed and get the head gas flowed. If i can see 140 upwards ill be happy. But im also tempted to bin the vtr and put the 16v in.

the 16v will be your better option, But i'm not going to tell you to do that... i loved the way the cammed 8v i had drove. 140 isnt unrealistic though, Set up well with a good exhaust and flow you might even surprise yourself, Depending on what cam you use.
It might not be exactly your plan, But heres an amazing 8v project, On bodies if you fancy a read.

are you going to the lengths of pocketing pistons?
I'd start with a rallye head/blacktop head and bin off the roller rocker head altogether. Then fit green or uprated valve springs when you cam it

Yeah this!
I've told JoeHindle he should do this with his Mk1's If you have a strong setup you can get good power with decent cams.
I've regularly seen over 140bhp with this setup.

the green springs will come with a rallye head anyway, and you'll need the standard rockers if you want to get a bit serious about the power it'll make anyway so its a no brainer to source one if you ask me. Then swap out the cam for a bigger one if you wish

hmmm, I was under the impression that the early silver top was the easiest engine to tune of the 3 and that the black top was one of the worst? time to have a bit of a think.

Only reason im not convinced to go for the 16v is weight and extra fuel, plus I used to have a cammed vtr before this one and loved it

The early silvertop is the worst if you ask me, ok you can use rallye inlets etc due to the port spacing unlike the later silvertop but its not got the upgrade paths standard rocker of the blacktop/rallye head. Block wise, I think the later 3 plug 98bhp is the best to go for as its pistons are flat or domed abit, cant remember which. blacktop/xsi/rallye 1600 are dished slightly
