recently bought an 02 vts and have stripped out the engine ,box and loom to put in my 02 vtr.
I will be starting work on my vtr this weekend hopefully and was wondering if i need the ignition barell and key from the vts? or can i use my vtr key?

have you unlocked the vts ecu before taking the engine out?

No, as soon as the ignition is turned off it's locked.
You need to switch on the VTS ignition, remove the texton immobiliser (black box behind the dash.
then turn off the ignition.
before fitting the ECU to the VTR, you need to remove its black box as well.
then you can fit the VTS ecu into the VTR.
OR you can have it doen properly, and send your VTS ecu to be professionally unlocked, but removes the serial immobiliser bus. the ECU will never re-immobilise again.

very highly unlikely, its a bit late now as the engine is out the car, so yea iirc all you need to swap over is the the imobilsier box, ignition barrel pick up ring to run the vts engine... might need other things,
people talk about swapping the barrels over but as long as the pick up ring off the vts is taken off and put around the vtr barrel i cant see why they would have to be changed

so i need to remove black box from behind vtr dash then fit pick up ring round barrel from vts to vtr and it will run on vtr key?

Ahh actually.
I've got it now! :D
Take the black box from the VTS, put it into the VTR.
Swap the chips from your VTS key into your VTR key.
Then put your vts ECU into the vtr along with the engine and vts loom.
That way your immobiliser still works and all that.

that seems about right lol
i could never be f**ked with all this messing about, when i locked my vts ecu after fitting the engine, decided to just fork out for another unlocked ecu

ok thats a little confusing lol . isnt my vts ecu already locked as i took the engine out without remove the black box?. and surely by swaping the chips in the keys i will have to swap the pick up rings also? sorry if it seems a silly question lol just want to make sure it will work

No, pickup rings are the same iirc.
If it doesn't start, you can swap the rings. easy :)
