Hi, i have had this noise from my engine for a bit now and dont want it to get worse now. The problem is i didnt know how to describe it so only way i could show you is by recording it and accelerate it a little. You can hear it on the video its like a belt but i may be wrong, You only hear this problem the worst when you have just changed gear and without accelerating just crusing at speed its loud.

Yet the strange thing is as soon as you dip the clutch or accelerate the noise gets quieter or goes completely.

Thanks for your help.

Gearbox.

Has to be.

Dip the clutch means no input is on the gearbox, and the noise is there in neutral so it can't be the diff or shafts. my guess is the input shaft bearing.

That's what I think :)

I understand where your coming from as it makes perfect sense but you mainly get this noise when in gear too. So say doing down a hill, your in third and crusing at 30. At constant steady speed i tend to leave in gear and not accelerate just cruise at 30. But you really hear it then. So still gearbox?

And is the repair what i think it is and changing the clutch discs or would it be the whole gearbox?

Thanks

clutch release bearing?
does it stop if you lift the clutch pedal up slightly?

No, that's not what I said. I already know that from your first post.

I was ruling out the possibility of it being the diff or driveshafts.

Either way, the gearbox needs to come off to investigate.

If it was the release bearing, the noise would change depending on the position of the clutch pedal. :y:

You have checked the condition of your belts and engine mounts though?

Someone who knows about cars needs to see this. it's impossible to diagnose properly over the internets.
