VTS thermostat seal?! [pictures included]

So, should there be a seal on the back of this in that ridge on the thermostat housing? (top photograph)

Rebuilding a VTS and I can't remember if there's a seal or not.

yeah and iirc when you but a new stat it comes with one in the box :)

I've bought a stat and got 3 seals. None of them fit. It's meant to be for my engine.
