I'm getting a new exhaust made and want to run a decat with an simulator to prevent the CEL coming on. Is this legal? I only ask as I know there are a few MOTers on here.

From what I've read in the new rules it seems that if a car was registered before August 1992 a cat is not a legal requirement, mine was registered in January 1992 so should be safe on this, am I correct. Also it seems that for a car the same age as mine the it's only a fail if a cat is present but not functional, again is this correct?

does it come with one as standard?

my mate had a pre-cat 106 with obv didn't need a cat for an mot but it never came with one..

probably best to try and look up the official guidelines, ill see if i can find anything

looks like if it was built before 31st july 1992 then you can have a non- cat test with a maximum of 3.5% CO2
