View Full Version : Oil catch tank piping

I'm removing the eBay "induction kit" from my VTR as it looks ridiculous, sucks in hot air and is far too loud. I've bought a standard airbox which I'm gonna stick a panel in but realised I need to remote mount my catch tank.
Problem being when I bought it I couldn't find anywhere that stocked the correct diameter piping, tried everywhere! Can anyone recommend or show me how they got around the piping issue because I just bodged mine together so it functions until I can sort it.
See pics - mounted below the hard pipe. Cable ties not my usual method for the record, just needed to stop the bastard spitting oil all over the fecking place!

Any advice appreciated.

If you`re going back to the original air box then go down the scrappy & take the pipes off another saxo mate, then plumb into the air box.

That was my initial thinking but leaving the catch tank on would stop the engine recirculating the oil vapour from the cam breather? Beneficial surely?

You`ve already got the ideal set-up with the standard kit mate.I take your point though also catch tanks do tidy up the bay.:y:

Why have a tank and the breather the tank into the inlet like that...
Defeats the point of having a tank
Also measure the fitting and thats the i/d of the pipe you need then ebay that size silicone hose
Iirc most are 16mm

Hence my point of going back to the oem set-up mate.

Yea or block the inlet on the oe airbox and just run the tank without it connected to the inlet system like i had mine

I always thought that they ran like that. But you're saying that I should just run the inlet and have a breather filter on the outlet?

Ah right I see what you mean now. Remote mount and seal the inlet into the intake piping. On another point, what airbox is that on yours? Looks schweet, real OEM+ sorta look.

Yea put a breather on the tank not a recirc to the inlet
That airbox was a 16v vts/gti one with a k&n filter
Better design than the 8v one and fitted with just a silicon hose

the reason the std one is routed to induction is that for type approval all emisions from car to atmosphere that could be classed as polutants must come through the exhaust . directing oil vapour to the road was outlawed over 30 years ago
