Hi,

Doing the waterpump/timing belt on the vtr tomorrow.

I was looking at how to lock the flywheel and have found the hole i need to stick an allen key/drill bit into but...

...its a mk2 so the oil filter housing makes it very difficult to put the drill bit/allen key into the hole and it obscures the flywheel observation hole (which i need to see to find the correct locking point according to the guides on here).

As its a mk2, do i need to take the oil filter housing off to lock it correctly?

Also, if i do, do i need to renew any gaskets?

Thanks in advance!

I've never bothered. Just use a paint pen to make your own marks before removing belt.
Put pin In the cam. Then mark the crank. With the paint pen.

I just took the oil filter housing off in the end.

Had to do crank seal as well so thought it'd be safer having the flywheel locked properly what with having to undo the crank bolt.
