My car has been overcooling recently as it has been cold the last few weeks. I have flushed the engine, fitted new rad and thermostat and new coolant as before it was overheating. Im thinking its a dodgy stat? Radiator top hose becomes warm almost soon as engine is run. I looked on 106 parts and there is 3 thermostats for a GTi. An 82 degrees c, 88 deg c or a 92 deg c. I have a spare 92c stat at home. Would this be ok or would it be too hot? Car currently has the 88c stat fitted.

I use an 82 degree stat in mine. It opens earlier than the others obviously, either way none of those should cause problems if they are working correctly and not stuck open

yeah it seems awfully hot must be one of the hottest fitted to a car as most open way earlier. The fan comes on at 97c iirc
