Just thinking out loud really, im hoping to get a 106 gti/vts sometime next year when i have the money, id like to take it on track, dont know much information on coilcovers, pretty sure they are better than just a uprated suspension kit. so
how much am i looking at?
What makes are decent? and makes i should steer clear of?
any if theres any more information you can give me that would be grand

the only ones i know of are pugsport.
research from ssc as interested myself -proflex, ohlins, sachs, reiger, penske, bilstein Pss.
saxosex runs ohlins so you could pm him but there prob gonna be a ridiculous amount. Taz on there sells a coilover conversion aswell
ill tackle this question in the future when i redo my set-up, but something like what camp davids running is gonna really do the job even though you can go stiffer

eibach coilovers mate, they are expensive like mate, over £500, but sometimes coilovers dont offer a massive ride height drop.
Scott
2nd September 2006, 12:51
if hes looking for a track car and handling then a massive drop doesnt figure into the equation.
Personally i wouldnt bother i dont beleive the adjustability of coilovers is genuinely worth it unless your competing on different surfaces etc...
Custom springs and bilstein shocks, 25mm arb at the back and thats a very very good starting point

pug sport boutique (http://www.boutiquepeugeotsport.com/Contenu/PNO005_01.aspx) for arb and torsion bars, gmc for bilstien grp n's
faulkners (http://www.dfaulknersprings.co.uk/) for uprated springs, you choose the length and stiffness.
Yates

really dont know what im looking at there Sean!
Can i get away with the standard torsion bar? and just get uprated shocks at the back?
dont want the ride to be too harsh mind
bullit
2nd September 2006, 17:46
you can. you can add a rear torsion or arb at a later date.
the site seans mentioned is obviously french but they sell there t bars and arb's a fair bit cheaper so some order from there
Sean
2nd September 2006, 17:52
and you can click on the english language option (on the pug sport boutique site) ;)
you can use the standard torsion bars but if you go for a higher spring rate at the front and leave the rear standard then it can negatively effect the handling ( simo had a thread somewhere about this not that long ago). remember uprated rear shocks wont affect the rear stiffness.
i'd go for bilstien group N's from gmc coupled with 180lb faulkner's springs, plus 25mm anti roll bar at the rear, then you can start thinking about thicker torsion bars later on.

Sean

sorry mate not sure on the prices apart from the parts listed on the gmc website. maybe worth pm'img campdavid as i think that could be or is near enough the set up he's running

Have a gander at that if you haven't already mate.

Pretty much sums it up, torsion bars are great, but at 400quid not cheap and won't get into udget here. A nice set of billi sports will, I'd keep an eye out for a lightly used set as they are about 450 all in when new. Koni yellows are also supposed to be very good for the back and they can be found very cheaply. Custom springs are superb, I run 200lb efforts which I think are near perfect, though 180lb will match to the billi sports/grp Ns better. 25mm ARB is a must IMO, really stiffens up the rear end a treat. However if I were to do mine again I'd rather buy a 24mm off a 106gti/rallye from a scrappy as they must be only worth about 35quid. Good mod that and cheap and easy to do, I'm supprised more people haven't tried it.
Antother thing to upgrade is all the bushes, this makes a big difference in tightening it all up and improves turn in

Upgrading the bushes, is that not a total pain in the arse job to do?
Yates
5th September 2006, 19:36
Right the way ive read it, i have different front shocks to rear, is that right? Could i not just buy a Billi sports or koni full suspension kit?
Im sorry im just not clued up on this side of things yet...
Front
billi sports
Custom springs - 180lbs
So im looking at these, Billi sports, im taking it they are front shocks, do you just get 2 front shocks where you buy them?
Where can i get custom springs from? im wanting to be down 50mm, so do i ask for some 180lbs 50mm custom springs?
Back
Koni yellows
24mm ARB - GTI/Rallye
Koni the back shocks? Can i buy just a set of back shocks? Where can i get them? Not really sure what the ARB is? Im guessing Anti Roll Bar? What does these look like? If i go to a scrap yard and get one, can i fit it straight away with out the above? as if i came across one id just buy it, how come they are different to the vts ARB? Thought they were the same all around?
Rep has been given out to those who have helped cheers and sorry again!

you can buy the billie sports/sprints shocks singley so you dont have to buy the springs in the kit. you cant buy the shortened gmc ones on their own.
billies and konis are quite similar but id just buy the one kit, think camps thinking of cheaper options.
spring from HnR or faulkner as said but you gotta decide on which kit your gonna go for as the gmcs shocks are shorter than sprints and sports. im not sure either if 180 pound springs on standard sport shocks are too stiff aswell, you may need more uprated shocks to go with them. sprints/gmcs
rear- arb as said anti roll bar, looks like a steel rod. im pretty sure it was only the rallye that had the thicker bar, probably as it was more sportier
so first decide on your exact shocks you want to know what springs you want.(stiffer obviously better for track) was a thread as said on ssc with all the spring codes on.
im gonna throw a question in aswell.- are sprints and the gmc's shortened dampers the same but the length is just different?
and camp is there advantages to why your sports are revalved compared to sprints.or is it just to run the stiffer springs? cheers

so could i get...
koni yellow full suspension kit
custom springs
24mm ARB
and that would be a really good set up?
Yates

Suspension.
SPECIAL OFFER
Due to bulk buying we can make this special offer.
Full suspension kits, consisting of a pair of our lowering springs, shortened Bilstien front group N rally inserts & rear units - £359
NOTE, THE FRONT SHOCKERS WE SUPPLY ARE NOT THE SAME THAT MOST PEOPLE SUPPLY, THEY SUPPLY pEUGEOT 106 BILSTIEN FRONTS, THESE ARE NOT SHORTENED, NOT ARE THEY UPRATED AS MUCH, THIS IS WHY YOU CAN FIND WHAT YOU THINK IS THE SAME BUT CHEAPER, ELESWHERE.
Bilstein Sprintline Rally Front Shock Absorber, the are actaully AX group N shortened units and the best about anywhere (AX, SAxo/106) - £220 pair
Bilstein Rear Shock Absorbers (Saxo/106) - £ 130 pair
Got this from gmc, so would i be ok buying the kit for 359?
I just want a good set up and for it to handle really well
they also have 50mm gmc lowering springs, would they be ok or would you still recommend the custom springs?
i intend on doing track days when i can, but i will be in the navy so may not be back all too often, im guessing that they will be ok for me?
then i will try and find more information on the ARB, try find out if GTI and Rallye have the same one, then i can get that and get it fitted, if i go to a scrappy can i tell if the ARB is fucked or not? not sure what they look like and if you can fuck them

Bullet - Bang on, my billis are revalved to run a little bit heavier on the spring front. Normal bill sports are set to run with 21mm rear bars and 180lb springs, I am on 200lb springs and 22mm bars
yate5y - The kit is a good deal but I've only heard bad things on the GMC spring front. That said I would still buy the kit and then flog the springs to someone who just wants to lower there car on here. SHould get 50quid for the springs? Add another 50 to that and a set of H&Rs or faulkners will be yours

I wouldnt recommend the GMC 50mm springs i had them on the vtr and they are very soft springs, they sit very nice but bottom out a hell of a lot. I have the 40mm kit on the vts with the billies and the 40mm springs are 14341 times better IMHO. Tempted by some custom springs and thicker bar but need some other stuff first

i'd be looking in the scrappies for the ARB just been looking on special tuning (uk pugsport dealer) and a 25mm group A one is 215 quid
glad i spotted this thread its answered a few questions i had aswell

Ahh, I remember now, keir's old one had 50mm springs, they were rubbish, bottomed out a load and tramlined under braking. Avoid
Yates

right so i may go ahead and order a kit now, save it for that special time
im just unclear on the springs, if i ask for some 180lbs 50mm springs for a saxo they will know what i mean? where do i get these from?

faulkners. I don't have the details handy, if you search on the old SSC though you'll find LOADs of threads on them and people who have tried different setups, hold on and I'll hunt out some high lights

Taht is Sworks16s car, running 180lb springs (specs in thread) they would be ideal, that car handles really quite well. About a 30mm drop (max drop for handling)
Yates
6th September 2006, 17:04
is there no way i could get some custom springs for a 50mm drop?
CampDavid
6th September 2006, 17:06
You can but 50mm will fuck the geometry into next week and hamper the handling. But with the shortened dampers you can run as low as you want really. I'd stay at 30mm, but thats me, I'm not bothered as to how the car looks
Yates
9th September 2006, 11:48
right, think il get that billi suspension kit when my mate pays me the money he owes me, can sit them next to the gti 6 brakes in the garage, all i need is a car for them now, or do i just stick it on the vtr?!
think i may go for uprated bushes aswell, paul showed me some that were 30 quid to buy the front ones, on the look out for an ARB now, have to have a ring around the scrap yards when i have more cash

There is someone breaking an s2 rallye on e-gay just now, get the ARB and torsion bars off that. I would but i have already spent my budget this month. ;)
