I bought this saxo as a 1.1 with a conversion.. But i cannot seem to find the right service parts when i order them. Can ANYBODY help me find out what year this engine is from.. I am assuming that it will be from a phase 1 as thats the car its in...

Because of the engine bay I would say it is a HFX (engine code) and the HFX is mostly build up into MK2. In MK1 there was another engine with the code HDZ. It has a black engine bay.
If you got the possibility to look at the engine block, there is the code stamped in (is it the right word in englisch?). Here is an example for the HFX and the stamped code (the pictures):

3Plug Silver top (98BHP) use this reg plate and it should get you the service parts you need:

So when ordering parts i will be getting parts for a mk2 vtr?
Because i went to ipswich the other day and picked up a coil pack and map sensor off a phase 2 vtr and went to fit them on mine here.. But they didnt work. The connectors were different.. On my vtr engine the connectors use 4 pins like this..

The same is with my map sensor.

If what your saying is right, and the engine used for the conversion is from a phase2 then why didnt the coilpack or map sensor plug in when i went to change them?

Also, Here is a picturte of the block with the code but it doesnt make any sense to me LOL.. Can anyone confirm 100% what year this is from so i know what to order when i need to?

Looking at the fuel line bodge anything is possible lol @ the FPR. (i'd be securing them especially the joins.)

Probs spliced some wires to suit some mk1 sensors.

When i bought the car it has standard manifold a downpipe with ONE lambda.. Then no cat in the mid pipe, and one rear box. I dont know if it came with 2 when it was in the original car.

So its decided, its an engine from a phase2.. So why did the coil pack and map sensor i bought off a ph2 vtr not have the same connectors?

All of this is new to me.. I have only had dubs and civics before the saxo so i need schooling a little LOL..

I did notice the fuel lines.. Looks like they were done with a hose pipe :/

As said probally spliced mk1 connectors onto a mk2 loom to suit some of the parts he had.

I wonder why the fuel reg is mounted there - surely should be on the fuel rail. I'd be worried it had a 1.1 rail / injectors lol

Oh yeah.. I had to re read the previous comment..

Its funny you say that because sometimes i put my food down and the car "bogs down" as if there isnt enough fuel getting to the engine.. i bought a in tank fuel pump from the vtr i went to incase there was a difference between the 1.1i and the 1.6i pumps?

Could that be the problem?

Would seem that way eh! can get VTR rails with injectors for <£25 so would be worth a shot.

edit: (thought you was asking about the injectors) i've read that people use the 1.1 pumps for awhile with no problems, but obviously better with the matched pump.

Well i am on about the injectors too.. Just the whole fuel set up really.. It all needs to be vtr/s stuff..
I will have to sort it all out over the next few months to get it up to scratch before i even think about other stuff LOL

Seeing as this was a mk1 it's probably running a fuel return and feed, but with the later 3 plug engine it's only got a fuel feed and the then the FPR is next to the pump on the tank. The guy who did the conversion probably tried to replicate this with all that pipe work and bay mounted fpr I reckon.
Seems a lot of work he'd have been better off putting in an early blacktop setup

I havent done a vtr/s conversion myself.. But i have looked into them. And as far as im concerned this is a poor example of a conversion.

What in peoples opinion would be the best thing for me to do to sort this car?
And geting rid of it is not an option.
I am going to be doing all the work myself on my drive.. And i know how to use a spanner, so thats no problem either..

Just need a little bit of guidance and reference to get me started in the right direction.

In the long run i want to have the car either running vts engine..
But for ease i will probably leave the vtr engine and work with that and go for itb setup
